I have a letter in front of me from the a well known international organisation. An organisation that my organisation does a considerable amount of business with. The letter comes from their "Human Rights Division". Get a load of this shit:
It's with much dismay that upon reading some of your organisations technical literature.........we feel that the use of the term Master & Slave (Biff - a term used by techies around the world to describe everything from hard drives to servers) is totally inappropriate.......using the terminology "male & female" (Biff - which is used to descibe plubgs ans sockets for fucks sake!) has sexual connotations and does little to reduce the barriers found in many organisations between male and female workers.......we feel that using the term "coloured wires" could incite racial prejudice....
Oh for fucks sake - get a proper job you twats!

Hi Biff
Go to your local library and ask for 2 books by Bob Jones (no Welsh connections as far as I know :wait:) The first is called "Letters" and the other is called "More Letters" (I think). In case you don't know, Bob is a vey wealthy property developer based in Wellington and has an absolute aversion to political correctness or boofheads in any shape or form. The books are copies of letters which he has written to people who have offended him and they're often published very publically at the time. Worth you going to a bit of effort to find them as they are hugely funny and are a wonderful guide to dealing with twats. I've since tried to emulate him! I have a copy of one of them if you're unsuccessful.
Bob J is also famous for breaking the nose of a TV1 news reporter when aforesaid reporter helicoptered in unannounced to interview him whilst he was indulging in his passion of trout fishing. :Punk: Quite a guy.

That’s just gotta be a joke. Scary if it ain't. Before you know it they will want the words removed from the dictionary. Beware the introduction of Newspeak!!
"It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words. Of course the great wastage is in the verbs and adjectives, but there are hundreds of nouns that can be got rid of as well. It isn't only the synonyms; there are also the antonyms. After all, what justification is there for a word which is simply the opposite of some other word? A word contains its opposite in itself."

Biff: re your intended response, you aren't far off the mark. When Bob Jones was asked to write a very public retraction over something he wrote, his opening paragraph to the individual was "I have shown your letter to my colleagues in the office and our unanimous opinion is that you are a prick". Then he really went to town.
Your best option may be to make the contents of the letter you received more public (a national daily should do it or Bob Jones, hehe) and let others do the work for you!

The really annoying thing is that nobody stopped to analyse these descriptions [male, female, coloured, et al] until the pc crowd stood on their hind legs, bleated and made people self-concious about what they were saying.
Language is about communication. It does not improve communication to replace simple, graphic, universally-understandable descriptions for connectors [ie male & female] with something obscure just because it is politically correct to do so.
I think it's sad that people waste precious time and resources to try to artificially change the language to reflect principals important only to a tiny minority .............. even sadder that the majority has to make a semblance of listening to them.

Personally, I think that to put a negative connotation (sp?) on words simply for referring to gender or whatever betrays more about the weird mental machinations of these idiots.
It's like deciding that 'black' is (for some reason) offensive but the wishy washy 'coloured' or 'brown' are better... well, isn't that a bit like saying, well, 'nearer to white' and therefore more acceptable'...? *shakes head*
Mind you, this is quite amusing... although someone was actually paid to come up with it, which is less so.

Actually its nothing to do with the religious right (who for the most part are conservative , and are generally anything but politically correct.. One of the few things they have going for them IMO).

Yes yes and YES - It is all contextual, and for that reason alone, a general and sweeping rule is not going to work, and is actually going to offend (as it has in here) albeit the sensibilities.
I spoke with a black family in Houston a while ago, very dear friends of mine. I told them of my fears in calling them the wrong thing - and asked them what I should say...
"Black" was the answer. Negro wasn't acceptable, Afro American was also fine.

I don;t know (or recall now - that chat was a few years ago) but I simply took them at their (very reliable) word and chose to go with what doesn't offend - in this case "Black"
As they were explaining it to me though - they hastened to add that use of the word "Black" is offensive in some states (NY comes to mind but I'm not 100% on that) so even they had to be careful themselves...
It's a funny old world ne'st pas?

Here ya go, another piece of PC shite that I experienced some years ago. I've just copied it from another thread where I posted some months ago.
"I used to run a company that supplied radio communication equipment to most of the UK's police forces. There was an emergency button on the top of the hand held radio that when depressed ( I was) would send out an alarm to all other police officers in the area and an emergency priority signal back to the control room. A female police officer complained and threatened legal action against both my company and her police force (greater Manchester), because when the button was pressed the LCD on the radio read "Man Down". It cost the freakin tax payer nearly 50 K pounds for my company to re-programme them, even after we gave them a 40% discount. Stupid cow."
Anyhoo - I've responded to the letter in question, and my respponse is 62 pages long. Most of it has been cut and pasted from technical manuals (belonging to my company, and about a dozen other companies, PC and electronic parts catalogues, web sites, PC magazines etc around the world ), and some of it is from this organisation own intranet site, which uses the term "colourful language". Now to me to insinuates that coloured people (especially those foul mouthed purple people) use offensive language more often than the transparent types.
