...an R1(X)00 GS carrying a surfboard - running down one side, mounted to the outside of the pannier at the rear and fairing (I presume) at the front. In a cover, all safe and sound.

My dad used to live in Waihi as a yungin. He had a similar set up for his surf board on this xr200

Was a nice day for it too. Surfers are cool :cool:, even cooler when they ride motorbikes, possibly less cool when said motorbike is a BMW...unless maybe it's an old one...which I don't think this was.
