View Full Version : From now on, I'm speeding

With all the clearly signposted 30kmh zones around Christchurch, I will admit that I usually travel through them at around 40kmh (oh I'm so bad!). I often end up with a big queue of very angry cagers behind me who tailgate me, toot their horn and shake their fists in anger. Sometimes they even overtake when there's not enough room, because apparently cars can't travel at a steady 30kmh without blowing up or something.

Today a van overtook me so closely (it was a big wide road), that the cunt nearly ran me over, and they swerved back in front of me to try and push me off the road (I was doing about 40kmh). From now on, I'm just going to speed. I'd rather risk a speeding ticket than have some fuckwit run me over. It would be good if the cops would actually do something about this. They could fill their entire quota in a very short time.

Yeah that's BS SMOKEU. Even at 30 they shouldn't be tailgating you but considering you were actually over the limit in the first place that's just crap. Hookup the GoPro and catch em in the act. Or chase em down and slash their tyres

I don't wear lycra when cycling. I wear jeans and a T shirt, sometimes with a jersey on top, and steel cap boots so I can damage cars when they get in my way.

If you're on a Suzie, then there's a good chance your speedo is horribly inaccurate ...

But that's no excuse for appalling behaviour by other drivers ...

My speedo over reads by 10% according to the 2 different GPS units I've used. I always factor this into account when riding.

All these fucking variable speed limits are a pain in the arse. I have no fucking idea what the speed limit is in any part of my local area these days unless I see a sign. So am I supposed to ride around looking for speed limit signs and just ignore the road environment? I don't think so. Fucking stupid I reckon. Burn the bastards! :ar15:

Actually SF makes a good point ... if they are going to be so specific about speed then "they" should spend a bit more money on speed indications!

We find it quite difficult to ascertain what speed a lot of areas are posted for especially in strange towns!

Too late after you have got a ticket from a zealot for half a Km FFS! :ar15: :Police:

The lack of signage is to them a feature not a bug. With appropriate signs we might be forewarned.

30k is fine where there are actually people working or surface is dodgy but there are areas of open road posted at 30 for hundreds of metres either side and it is physically and mentally impossible to stay at 30 for these extended periods when hazardous conditions no longer exist....you are concentrating too hard on the low speed your brain misses things it shouldn't. Admittedly there are rules in this overly PC shithole and workers have no choice where to start and stop these 30 zones. The bureaucrats need to sort their shit out and make NZ liveable again, not that I'm hanging round anyway, just my thoughts. ....yes people tailgate and get very frustrated, I always ride to stay alive, if it means breaking the odd law then so be it ....I can live with the consequence of a ticket it I feel I'm in the right

True that.

There you are, cruising aimlessly on holiday in some foreign town, obeying the speed limits like a good biker should, enjoying the scenery etc.... you look in the mirror & a massive que of cars behind you while you do 60k on a 100k road :2thumbsup...
bloody bikers
