Yes, but not from major manufacturers. Aprilia, Triumph, and MV and the earlier incarnation of Triumph/BSA and also MV Agusta are all small beans in manufacturing terms compared to the current iteration of Nissan.

Speaking of such i was at a mates place yesterday looking at his recently purchased NS400R, what a wee firecracker sounding
machine all in its Rothmans livery.

At the time they were small.No they weren't, they had half the American market by that stage, and were only a couple of years away from their first F1 championship (although admittedly that is on the car side).
