I'm 50 ( and a little bit ) and I can't stand cricket , rugby or golf ( unless there's free beer ) but I know what you mean. Spent my whole life involved in "unconventional " sports none of which ever got much coverage

I'm with you Phantom. Spent most of my extensive years avoiding non-live sport and mostly avoiding live sport, avoiding TV innaneness (sp?) etc mumble mumble :zzzz:

I ride cos I enjoy it and I don't follow motoracing, GP or bike-related sports any more than any other type of sport. :dodge:

If you want to watch any of the less conventional sports you have to shell out for Sky. An ex-flattie had Sky Sports for a while and it was refreshing to watch snooker and shooting events (not combined, though - worse luck!)

It's a bit like that old joke, "Yesterday I couldn't spell sprots anounser, now I are one..."

Sadly we don't have many sports announcers, we have rugby and cricket commentators which is different. We get bimbos (of both genders) who can't pronounce the names of golfers, tennis players, or motor bike riders.
They probably can't spell "professional" either, they certainly have no concept of the meaning of the word.

This may explain why so many of our "Sportspersons of the Year" are from rugby and cricket. Barry Briggs was Sportsman of the Year in Britain, but not here. Hugh Anderson never got a look in here either, but he should have. Nothing new, but it is still a piss-off.
