View Full Version : Creating opportunities - Ninja 300 - Swan Series Australia

I am racing in the Australasian Superbike Championship this year. All the top Australian superbike riders have switched to this championship including Wayne Maxwell, Glen Allerton and Robbie Bugden. Infact the entire top 10...

http://www.fxsuperbikes.com.au/

I have access to a full team set up that is completely unused including workshop, with suspension clean room, milling machines, dyno, race truck/transporter and another VW van.

Its a bit of a waste if its only me that can take advantage of it so I want to take a young kid over to race the Ninja 300 cup and I can mentor them. I have a friend who is an air craft engineer that is organising logistics and will be able to help spanner, he is also very good with suspension. This series would be a great opportunity for a young kiwi kid to race, there is a huge amount of prizes including a brand new Kawasaki ZX6 for the Champion.

http://www.fxsuperbikes.com.au/?p=2914

I have a rider lined up for this year. I have organised free insurance, free entry and free garage hire thanks to Terry Oneil. He has flights paid for by a sponsor so all he has to come up with is some accommodation, fuel, tyres and crash damage so he only has to fund about $1000 per race weekend

What I want to do is try and come up with enough money to purchase a 300 and get it up to spec. I have estimated that if I can pick up a crash damaged 300 I will be able to get it on the track and competitive for $7000. I am looking for interested parties to donate money to purchase this bike.

I would like this opportunity to continue for at least another 2 years, so each year I would nominate another rider that may like to take advantage of the use of the bike for free and so on.

If your interested in helping please flick me a message

Can't be true, surely not......

I'll be in to help Chop. A couple $ and some elbow grease.
Would love to be involved somehow (coach, mechanic, etc).

Would really love to take the IMD250 to Oz to race it, but no class for it at FX unfortunately.

Choppa, any road or race riders you can direct to me to set up there externall suspension for them for a reasnable fee of $???? I will donate the total amount to this cause man, I have no spare cash still so this is the best I can do and people on this site can speak up about my aabbillity to do this for them. I could also attend the final 2 nats rounds to do the same for races there if there are any that would like help or advice/guidance.

I would love to see Bailey over there doing it

Thanks guys! Yeah Shaun im in a similar position plus I have my own racing that I am trying to fund so the best I can do is offer services...

To get the bike to spec it needs race fairings, rear sets, full exhaust, rear shock, modified internals in the front and then things like chain and sprockets.

It could be a work in progress, it could be ridden standard for the short term untill more funds are raised.

I have found a road bike with low ks I could get for 4-4500au.

If someone is prepared to purchase this bike you will be the owner and all the parts that I fundraise and purchase for the bike will remain with the bike. The deal will be that the bike must be available for atleast another year but then it is yours to sell and recoup the costs.

Anyone keen???

this sounds like an awesome idea choppa, hope you can get the right people on board.
Surely some well-regarded businesses would be interested in donating a few parts and some labor hours in return for some signwriting on the end product too?

be awesome to provide some up and comers with a pathway to bigger things!

who on here reading this thread has an 07/08 GSXR1000 and is mechanical to fit a Leo Vince Exhaust system them self?

You would be helping this cause by fitting and taking photo's of it to sell it to donate the money to this cause, or you just buy it off me for $500-00 + freight and direct the money to Sloan for this cause. This is all I can put towards this effort apart from what I have already suggested.

Hey Shaun, thats a fantastic offer thank you!

We have sorta come up with the plan that we are going to pick up a bike from an auction as cheap as possible and the rider is going to compete on the bike in a near standard condition for the first round then we will develop it as we can afford

Yup I like that idea but id only do that once we actually had the bike and it was all going ahead 100%, also I want to hold out initially for someone that may want to put some $$$ to buy the bike. $5000 for a full race spec 300 is pretty good going. Might even be a good investment for a young guy that wanted to ride the bike themselves in 2015

Shaun Harris

$5000-00 is all it is going to take to make some thing happen that we all go on about all the time, if I had it- it would be there for them. Wish I had some wealthy friends or contacts

5k to help create the next Jake lewis, Andrew Stroud, simon crafar, Aaron slight, and all managed by a proffessional Sloan frost and team

Excellent intiative Sloan,Kind of a reverse of what I have been doing in bringing the young Aussie's here to raise the profile of our class,

Ive made some good contacts over there that could help with this as well if required,If you need my help,You know how to contact me,Unfortunately we have no relationship whatsoever with Terry Oneil so can't help at all through those channels unfortunately.

Do you have a selection process in place for this,Or are the general public expected to donate on the idea you will choose the competitor?

Great to see some of the more established competitors giving back to the sport as well

Good stuff Sloan.
Im a bit with Billy re the selection process, maybe after the selection is made more people will decide.
Hope it works out, will sure raise the interest level form over here.

I am not sure how Sloan is going to decide who the rider will be, but as far as I am concerned this SHOULD be Sloan,s alone decision, as he is the man who has created this opportunity for a young Kiwi racer and will be the man over all managing this project.

Trying to a poll or some thing simillar would take so much time ( and time is money to a working man)

Sloan is a proffessional racer as such, as well as a buisness person as well as an adult, so I am personally happy whom ever he chooses as my small commitments already should show.

Anyone that understands how hard it is for a young kiwi to get this opportunity and for the future really should just trust Sloan,s judgement call and just start donating what ever they can and be bloody proud that you have been a small or large part in helping some one achieve there goals as a racer.

No NEED for this turn into a traditional KBR slinging match, just cough up and be proud

Actually,The question was directed at the OP,As he is the person making the effort,Your opinion is as valid as anybodies,But thats all it is,Your opinion,Many people (Myself included) will simply not be interested in donating towards the effort unless they know who it is theyre backing,Better to get it out in the open now so Sloan can move forward with whatever it is he has planned,With the backing of those who approve,No KBR slanging match here.

Hey guys thanks for the encouragement. This has come about really because of the support that I have from Geoff Kelly and ESPC Services. He does a lot to support a few races and one of the racers he supports is Bailie Perriton. I dont know Bailie at all really but I have watched him ride and he was very impressive. So for this year Bailie will be the rider. The only reason I hadnt mentioned names as we all know there has been drama in the 250 production class and I didnt want that to overshadow what im trying to do.

So the idea was to get something sorted for this year for Bailie and then the ride could be passed onto the next Kiwi rider and id be interested in a selection process. I actually got that idea from Scott Wilkins who had already been tossing the idea around that the national production champ would get the chance. Obviously its not completely free for the rider so they would get the right of refusal.

If Robbie puts in the 5k as the major sponsor then he wants to take control of the bike after this season but basically do the same thing. Ideally I would want someone that would be interested in leaving the bike in my control so I can keep it going. The other option is to do the public funding thing so I can continue on with it and then at the time the bike is sold then id put the proceeds into the VMCC scholarship programme.

At this stage Robbie is the only interested party to do the 5k thing but the more I think about it the more im keen to do a public thing. I am going to buy a bike in the next week or two with some of my sponsorship money but im prob already 10k short that ill be paying myself so I cant really afford it and ill need to recoup the cost to pay for my own tyres.

It will end up costing me money because ill be providing accomodation where possible, rental cars and already im purchasing things organising signwriting etc but also it takes so much time to organise these things im flat out.

I received a lot of support from MNZ last year and its a shame that the MA series in Australia has all but fallen over but Terry is just going from strength to strength and I think its only a matter of time before he is back with MA and then we could talk about a round in NZ

Shaun Harris

I am selling this last one to help fund some one and fund my family and me a little, it was won racing bikes, so selling it help the racing of bikes works in my head, "what comes around goes around"

Thats the sort of clarity people will be looking for,The sooner you can get a payment schedule set up,The better now that people can see exactly what is planned,Looks like it should be a good series with plenty of talent involved.

All good then,

Did you buy new? Only I was told Kawasaki Australia were doing a deal whereby you could get a new bike in the crate for around $5500 AUD and racefairings for around $590,My contact over there already has a bike setup and have been racing it last year,Awesome wee bikes apparently,Be good to get them onboard over here,But I fear it would destroy the 250 class we already have,Still maybe next year,Good luck.
