I was saddened to hear that Shirley Temple died recently, although at least she was a child star who took control of her life and her death was from natural causes. (Unlike so many others of later generations...)

Watching the news montage showing snippets of her life, especially as a child actor, I was amazed at just how talented she was. Most hilarious moment though was quite unintentional I'm sure: she was shown driving a pedal car and the announcer said something to the effect of "and here she is driving just like a grown up woman" just as she pranged it into the curb. Balu and I both burst out laughing uncontrollably, given that the comment did not appear to be made in reaction to the curb kiss.

Anyway, a woman who showed the world there was a meaningful life after stardom and who managed to avoid unsavoury headlines throughout her adult career and life.

She did seem to genuinely care about certain humanitarian issues, unlike a lot of hollywood rabble who are only interested in the publicity that they can create for their own careers.

And she awoke to find that she had been taken to the cleaners by her exploiting family and had to start out all over again! :niceone: (Tough kid that one)
