Goat or deer shooting in a month or two?

Ladies and Laddies... I have an urge to get out there and see if lead poisoning really does affect the goats and deers as much as they say it does.

Best I have is a .22 so I can't contribute to the armory, but I am a long time gun licence holder, and will happily contribute toward ammo, a beer or three etc.

Any ideas of where and when we could give it a go?

Bit far away to be of help, all I can say is that a .22 is not even up to 'marginal' when it comes to clean kills on goats CONSISTENTLY, as for deer, hmmm, you would have to be REAL accurate, calm and know a shitload about bullet placement to even think about it.

Maybe I should clarify.

I wouldn't DREAM of using the .22 (LR) on either of those beasties... but I am very happy to purchase ammo to help drop them if someone else has the rifle (a .243 or .270 or something appropriate)

And if any of you is keen on removing a nasty ginger tom cat that has attacked all of our cats, please let me know! The mongrel lives next door and has existed peacefully with our two cats for two and a half years, and the kitten for six months. Last week our male cat came home with a big scar on his head, not sure if the tom cat was responsible for that or not, but this week he has attacked our old female cat - she didn't move or eat for two days, and on Sunday it got the kitten - resulting in a swift visit to the vet as she could hardly walk. Three huge bite marks on one back leg and two on the front. If I see it, it won't have to worry about old age, it will be dispatched very quickly!

Don't set it, but bait it up and place it handy to the cats... let the cats get used to eating from it, then lock your cats away, bait it and set it...

You can probably get once from the SPCA on hire - lots of Hire Centres have them.

Remove, dispose of contents. Profess innocent ignorance when distressed owners come calling.

Um, thanks, jrandom, but being a cat lover I would find it a bit difficult to actually drown one - and besides, we live in the country and we're on tank water, so that would be a bit of a waste!

The funny thing is, the neighbour is one of those "only have it if you can eat it or work it" types, so if OUR cats were attacking his, he'd probably just shoot them. I didn't realise he was outside when I was feeding the sheep yesterday and I was talking to the kitten, as you do, and saying "don't worry, if I see that nasty ginger cat again, I will boot its arse". Looked up, saw him and decided to walk over to the fence to ask what was up with HIS cat, but he'd disappeared by the time I turned around. Didn't see the cat last night, maybe he locked it inside!

At least our cats only attack rabbits and mice, not other cats!

.22 kills goats but u gotta shoot them n the neck (breaks there neck = quick death) u can kill a deer with a .22 but you gotta be a bloody good shot ! but dont try it! :nono:

Been trial riding on my Sporty!! (makes as much sense/liklihood as duck shooting with a 303).

And ANY 303 bullet would "work a treat" on a cat!! Sheesh!

It's a never-ending problem - cretinous neighbours not taking responsibility for their animals.
I like cats too, Beemer, but the way that I view things is that my cats [and other animals] are under my protection and I would [and have had] no qualms whatsoever in catching and despatching anybody ELSE's animal that threatens their wellbeing .... [albeit with a fair bit of sadness as it is NOT the offending animal's fault].
