Late last week we received a pamphlet in the mail from the Christchurch City Council stating that tomorrow (the 17th) that they are introducing parking restrictions down our little cul-de-sac, well fan-fucking-tastic.
About 2 years ago the council decided it was a great idea to replace all of the angle parking on the street with badly maintained gardens and painted yellow lines everywhere meaning there was very little places left to park.
When querying the drop kick on the phone over these new parking restrictions he states that it will mean residences will find it easier to find parking, so we said "great, you must be supplying us with special stickers allowing us to park on the street without having to pay fines or get towed", "ughhhh, no" was the answer. "OK so what do we do with our other properly 2 door down that has no off street parking?", "ugghhhhh......"

So im turning to the collective KB genius. Apart from collecting parking limit signs does anyone have any suggestions for fighting these sorts of battles?

Have a chat with the neighbours and each sign a document that gives you all rights to relocate the badly maintained gardens, get a jackhammer, and put the original parking spaces back.

The decision to do it must have come from somewhere....Go back to the prick on the phone and ask who or which committee was responsible. Then where did the request to change come from...and who. Then your load of compost has a target....

If it's someone in your street, gang up on them...that's how democracy works.

I'm having issues with the same council over stream damage they are ignoring - I have the Mayor's e-mail address now and promised a response (to be fair they have had over three years to respond ......).

They are making some stupid expensive decisions, given the billions that need spending on the city they are wasting hundreds of thousands upgrading parks etc!!!! Spend one million a month to keep services going to red zone residents who have had years to come to grips with CERA and insurance offers, farking nuts - cut them off and start applying some of that coin to the other rate payers who were not zoned red but have council earthquake related issues.

One of the neighbors has already done that.

If you're a resident why do you need on street parking? Why not just park in your own garage? Since when is Council responsible for giving you somewhere to leave your vehicles?

ahhh, makes sense now. Heaps of development there, they want to make the workers in all those new offices pay for parking elsewhere now no doubt (whoops, I mean encourage public transport )

I lived down Dickens Street when they put all that BS indentation and crap in. They put grass outside of our place which was a pain as we didn't have a lawn (so obviously no lawn mower to keep it tidy and they didn't cut it often). Looked nice enough but why they do this crap that needs extra on going maintenance costs thrown at it beats me.

Sister in law had the same thing when she lived in town, they put parking limits on her street where they lived in an old cottage with no off street parking.

She just made up a letter stating that she lived at the address and how many parking tickets she had received, when the next one turned up she would just increment the number by 1 and send it to the council again. After a while she stopped getting them...

Obviously my issue is they removed the car parks then try and make us pay for the few remaining left and try and justify it by saying its in our best interest.

In this area there is a lot of early 1900's cottages and bungalows with no off street parking, they are either too ignorant or stupid to realise this to be a issue and havent planned accordingly. They have given residents 1 week notice to come up with an alternative, which the only one i can see is paying daily for a council car park, which from my house is a 10 minute walk away.

well since you dont seem inclined to militant action. Either petition, or get everyone in the street/neighbourhood to write in telling them to fuck off/next best alternative. Ie, restore teh parking space.
When that BS happens up here, we rates strike.
KDC my f@ken ars!

Who gets voted in there ... the residents or the council? Sounds like the tail is wagging the dog!
