So I got hold of a Ct90 with a 110 cc engine
It needs a full rewire, previous owner couldnt get it running
Has lots of wires hanging of it attached to nothing.

All I want at this stage is to get the motor running

I am no genius but I am happy to learn.

It has CDI, and a car coil with what I assume is a condensor strapped to the side of it (it is a 12v coil and the bike is 6v)
I have a ballast resistor car coil which will be happy on 6v (after I remove the ballast resistor)

My question is does anyone have a simple circuit to help me try to get this thing running.

There are 4 wires coming out of the LH side of the crank case. I guessing these are from the stator
they are black white pink and yellow and someone has crimped the white and yellow ones together.

Once I get her running I will worry about lights etc.

The black wire connects straight to the coil.

One wire off this to the handlebars (end bared but not touching the bars) .. this will be a kill "switch". touch bars with bare wire end to kill it.

Disregard battery etc in the meantime.

thank you. I shall give this a run in the weekend

I guess I connect the black wire to the positive terminal and the negative terminal connects to Earth

You have bought yourself a headache, CT90's are points ignition and 6 volt. CT110's are CDI and 12 volt. go to http://postiebikeadventure.wordpress.com/2009/03/18/wiring-diagram/ and this will give you a wiring diagram so that you can work out what wires to connect to the cdi, the coil you have is no good to you. You need a CT110 CDI coil to get any spark, the coil you have with a condenser on it is the old ct90 coil and will never work neither will the car coil both are only suitable for points ignition system.

The coil I have is a bosch gt40 car coil. It is the same size as a can of V and is bolted to the side of the bike. It was on it when I got it.
I know it is a headache thats why I am asking.

thanks for the advice re wiring diagram

checked the spec on your gt40 coil and bad news is that it's a garage ornament as far as your ct project is concerned. Honda cdi's usually have a 100 volt pulse output the gt40 coil is looking for 9 volts and a longer dwell length to get any spark.

you know what spanner spinner, thats good news as it means I can isolate one thing thats wrong!

Thank you! I shall save it for my Anglia

I will figure out if this is a 6v or 12v engine in the weekend when I check the serial number

Cheers mate.

You guys are great thanks for all the advice its awesome!

Here it is..
Have got nowhere on this purely due to needing to get Anglia on road/ work/ coastguard commitments
However I have 2 weeks off next fri onwards, and plan to get her running

Somewhere I have posted the c90 stuff, some Chinese pitbike parts could also work for a while at least.............

Sorry for the slow replies, life has got in the way of getting this girl running...
BUT
I just purchased a loom for a CT90 (6v)
The bike has a CT110 engine in her (half are 6v, half are 12v as far as I can tell).

How can I tell which voltage my engine is?
Can I just put a 1.5ohm ballast resistor in series if it is a 12V engine?

Sorry for my noobishness

I just reread the info on here
and for the first time in ages got an evening to look at the bike..
the wiring diagram linked on here wont load on my laptop anymaore.

So I went to
http://www.postiebikes.com/specs.htm

there are diagrams on there.

So, pardon my ignorance but they all have 5 wires coming out of the CDI on the diagram.

My bike only has one wire (green) coming out of the box labled CDI

The wires coming out of the alternator are different colours to ANY wires on the diagrams (but look stock)

Is there ANYONE in on here fromchch that can help me with the wiring to just get this going?

Im not looking for a freebee, but would rather get help off a local member and line his/ her pockets.

I will need to buy a 12v coil for this too.

Thanks!

Two wires from the left of the motor are imperative to the bike starting. One is a 12 supply to the CDI, the other tells said CDI when the crank is nearing Top Dead Center and to fire accordingly. You can arsehole the rest if you put a battery in there and run total loss.

One of the others is you 12V lighting supply, the other is 12V ignition supply (as in, it goes to the positive side of the coil).

Now that this is understood, know that the colour of the wires could be completely independent of what they came out of...which could infact be a Chinese pitbike where they used whatever the fuck was lying on the bench at the time.

The signal wire from the CDI goes to the NEGATIVE side of the coil. A coil is just a grunty capacitor. It has constant power but the ground is interrupted by the CDI, so it has to send a big voltage charge through the high resistance item known as a spark plug.

This is a cunt to work out when looking at eight wires of various colours, but once you sort it you'll kick yourself for being a fucktard to begin with. ( I know I did.)

Well I ordered a 12v coil and a CDI off tardme today
I hope that this will get the beast running.
Ideally I want to get her running then I can work on Lights, etc
Thanks
