Pukekohe Park Raceway Open Day
10th September, 2005

Hi folks, are you sick of the police and members of the public b*tching about you speeding? Are you sick of being surrounded by incompetent cage morons out on the road to kill you? Does the thought of gravel or diesel "around the bend" on your favorite piece of road, keep you from enjoying riding your motorcycle to it's full potential?

WELL, I HAVE THE SOLUTION FOR YOUR PROBLEMS!!

Come along to the Pukekohe Race Way for an open day and enjoy all the benefits of having no cops, no coming traffic and having plenty of run off areas. Not only that but you do not have all the other restrictions of the public roads. Come along and explore new limits and learn new skills!

Where: Pukekohe (obviously).
When: Saturday the 10th of September, 2005.
Starting: 10:30 AM.
Closing: 4:30 PM.
Cost: $ 90 (No EFTPOS, so bring cash in hand or cheque is OK with valid ID).

Who can come? Anyone with decent protective gear on a safely working vehicle (as in, it won't fall apart down the back straight!)

There will be cars and bikes allowed on the track so we will probably get about 4 sessions of 20 mins length at a time.

If you don't want to go on the race track yourself, why not come for a watch and meet the rest of us KB members. :)

See you there! :Punk:

Any of the once you mentioned above is fine.

Just as long as you are not obviously asking to kill yourself by wearing T-shirt and shorts or singlet etc. you won't be questioned.

However I'd sujest that a leather 1 pc or 2 pc zip together suit with approved CE armour as a must for your own personal safety.

Hmmm... It's great having tons of friends and though I'd love to let all my mates try out my new bike around.. We only have 4 sessions on the day and at least 1 or 2 other mate has already pre-booked to have a go on it from way in advance!

Then I still have to get the practice time in for myself to race on the 2nd Oct, as that's the whole reason why I bought the 125.

But yea, at some stage in the future, when the chance arises, you are welcome to try it out for a bit.

P.S. Tell that chick that whatever I have done to her in the past is in the past. She should learn to get over whatever she's pissed off about. Violence is not the way to solve problems!!! :nono:

She doesn't even know you mate :). She may or may not turn up - being a kiwi racer she's usually broke. If she has the cash she may come as she wanted to get some practice done.

By the way she has two bikes - one is for sale in case anyone wants one.

600 is good Chris :) Greg was kind enough to let me ride the R6 last saturday and man that was fun! so much smoother then the now aging 400's but too fast for my mind to comprehend, also too fast for my girly arms to hangon to nearing the end of the backstraight, was well amazed how much harder the wind gets with the extra speed, and how much scarier it makes the hairpin re: braking.

Anyways hope your taking the gixxer out there Quasi its so much fun even on the wee 400's. Cyas.

hey hey hey im not leaving 400's! they are the way of the future! *cough* yeah hmm, right. But just wanted a small turn on the R6 which i must say is real nice to ride, loved it completely, but the more obvious reason i was out there for was to ride the FZR400, which after the first session the clutch cover came off and greg had to put a washer under each spring because the clutch was slipping, then also carbs came off and more minor jetting had to be played with. Still messing with front suspension and other such minors but it feels all good and a day out there riding without crashing is a good day for me so im happy.

ignore whats behind you (take off your mirrors, its for the best :niceone: ) hold your line and dont deviate, the hardest thing for me is when im coming around the outside of you, and you stand your bike up...

Well that is just where your problem is. Dont go on the outside cause one cant see you there but when you come through on the inside you can. Cause the person hears you before you even get to the corner and he/she actualy expects you on the inside not outside. :hitcher:

bugjuice
6th September 2005, 22:33
just hold your line, and 'run your race' so to speak, even tho it's 'not a race'.. pfft..
anyway, it's the responsibility of the over-taker to ensure a safe pass, not you as the over-takeeeeeeee. Just hold your line. The worst thing you can do is become unpredictable, and as soon as you start worrying about what's behind, instead of infront, that's what will happen

It doesnt matter on a track weather its left or right as long as its done safely, definately take off your mirrors as a newbie, this way your focused on your riding and not on whats coming up behind you. Also try not to get rattled when a bike does pass you at a high speed, keep focused.

At the end of the day, its a lot safer out there than on the road so remember that and have some fun

Saw somthing mentioned in another thread about the new tto track riders wearing hi viz vests...

I was thinking of bringing mine down, and could bring some extras if the KB Crew think it worth while, might make the reg's a little more understanding of our perhaps un-couth and un-predictable riding...

Squiggles
8th September 2005, 07:51
or the reg's could be "convinced" ;) into wearing them and we could then use them as guides around the track..... (they did this at that tracktime event from memory)

8th September 2005, 09:30
if you want to wear them, you'll most likely be the only ones wearing them, but by all means, go for it. As for photos, there isn't anything organised by anyone. If you want pics, you'll have to find someone to take some for ya..

Cool day out. Thanks to both Quasi and DSS3 for their extreme lack of judgment in letting an idiot cane their bikes around the track. Was also good to meet a few new folks and catch up with some old ones.

Shame the guy on the old two stroke had such a nasty off. Hopefully it'll be OK.

Edit: Ahh fuck, almost forgot. For the first time ever at a race track, I put my extremely limited technical know-how together and diagnosed a fault on some buggers race bike after it broke down. He was extremely gratefull and I'm sure he'll be along soon to tell us all about it. Fuck I'm good.

Actually, i managed to keep out of the red (17K) most of the day, Wasnt often the revs dropped below 11k though. 75,600k on the clock and she can still handle a thrashing, go Suzuki

Yeah great day all, loads of fun, good riding done and had by all.

For me the gixxer went really well, only issue ids the head fairing shaking around alot causing the bike to become a bit unstable at high speed corners, so buttoned of a bit from my usual slow pace to be safe, I will sought that out though in time for the first race, it was good that all came out on this testing day.
Thanks WT for your help guidedance etc on the bike, thanks LB for the slow cunt comments, keeps me focused :motu: !!

Dont know what ya talking about mate, i never rode no track and thats what im sticking to (when the missus is concerned) and chances are i'm not going to be able to pay all my credit card bill, but fuck it what a mint day.

Rode to puke, got pulled up doing 80kph in a 100kph (go figure) some shit about my numberplate not being readable, i asked if he had his contacts in, so i had to clean it, then he pulls the "one of these bikes were nicked the other day, a silver one infact", so i told him he better run a plate check then, he said "I WILL", righto mate ya fucken tool (i didnt say that for the record), asked for me licence and gave me shit cause i had a risky car and a full bike, i asked him what his point was and he turned his back on me to talk on the raido, anyhow all checked out sweet (funny that) he asked if i was going to the track i said yea man, and he then asked me where my indicators were, i told him straight up that i took them off for the track as well as i took my mirrors off for the track, i dont know if you noticed the mirrors were off as well, he replies "OF COURSE I DID", basiclly he ended up with i need quite a few things more than a few actualy, um yeah okay mate, I thought you'd be impressed or at least pleased that i'm going to the track to do my racing there and not on the road?, he said, LOOK just bugger off, and drove away.

So in two minds, cool cop - no ticket, bad cop - real shitte attitude, i should've just fucked off on one wheel, but i had company.

Track, was awesome tryed a few new things and lines and they worked, i know i got at least 1.04's, but there was a lot of traffic out there (not that i have a problem with that, cool) and it was damn near impossible to string a fast lap together, but i came away real happy and that i have learnt more, next time it's racetecs all the way, road tyres just dont cut it now.. Shame about the crash, pretty nasty indeed, on ya Jill for a good attitude, hope you get ya SV650 real soon, you'll love it to bits.

Got home staright to work, which sucked the kumara, but i need the coin, anyhow on my way home, i gas it up down my street (80kph) and theres a judder bar just before my pad, so i hook the back wheel skywards and roll upto the judder bar, thing is there is this car coming towards me just before the jusserbar, i land and my lights light up a cop car, doh, so i stopped next to him and he winds down his window, i said "fuck me thats unfortunate timing" he just cracks up and said "yes it rather init" he just dasi to be a bit more careful and told me to have a good night - and drove off.

Cool Cop - No ticket - Cool Cop - Fuckeing fantastic attitude, i'd imagine if i was doing it down Queen St or some shit it would've been a different story.

Hope everyone enjoyed there day today, i'd love to say i'll see ya next time, but the credit is already maxed.

Hell yeah, great day out all round. Was hoping bike wouldn't have a repeat of last trip to puke. That day it kept cutting out and the end of the straight coming into the hairpin, seemed to get worse as the day went on, and eventually bike just stopped.

Then last weekend at Manfield bike ran sweet, so was hoping all was sorted and it would be fine again at Puke. Well things started off sweet, WT had "bagsed" us a nice spot in the bits, and mine and Quasi's bike were looking pretty fast just standing still. First sesssion, went out, bike seems to be running fine, thinking this is pretty sweet, start to push a bit faster and starting to get the feel of the track a bit more. Towards the end of the session bike developes a bit of a stumble. Thinking oh owe, here comes that problem again.

Before the second session bike was running a bit funny, but went out anyway, sure enough, first time into the hairpin and in splutters and dies, spend the whole session on the side of the track looking pissed (see big daves photos.)

After pushing the bike back to the pits WT decides we should take the tank off and have a look, so I get all the bolts undone and he goes to heave the tank off. Well he just about throws it up into the air effortlessly (should have been a clue here), gives it a few expert shakes, and I can see he his putting all his experience and technical knowledge into something, after a short time he appears to have found a possible fault. He tells me in a voice just loud enough for everyone to hear, "YOUR OUT OF PETROL!."

So I was feeling like a bit of a dickhead, I filled the tank up and did a few other minor tweaks to the bike, ya know, like tightening cable ties, kicking tires, giving think a bit of a shake etc. Well the bike seemed to run fine after that, hard to determine whether it was WT's diagnosis or my little tweaks that got it running better, but had a ball for the rest of the day! :-)

also what do the gixxer 1k's have HP wise? those GS1000's are only up to around 150hp, and the frames are just a bunch of handlebars welded together, it really is unbeleivable, full credit to the 60 seconds. Good to hear everybody enjoyed the day :) sorry i couldnt make it, and finally -

Dont be scared of me fella
My bike was good but the handling was shite, WT reckons I need a steering damper to sought out the front, I was having a hard time getting through high speed corners, also the fairing was shaking around alot which upset the bike.
As well as that I dont think I rode that well, mostly cause of the above but mainly because of my head situation dealing with the above.
I will hopefully have it soughted by race day so then I wont have an excuse.
Can you do me a deal on a dampner dide ?

11th September 2005, 22:56
Hey quasi, your running the GPR70SP's right? they are a bit "triangulated" as i say so with more wear in centres they become more stable,i reckon either try a slightly lower pressure - what were you runnnig? 30/30 on a fine day i reckon. I was having the same trouble with the FZR400 as its REALLY light in the front and was getting all sketchy, tiny bit worrying, but i did have a steering damper and in the end i dialed it from nothing, to halfway and that helped heaps. So i guess yeah it is a reasonable option. I cant do you a deal sorry, but give us a call at some stage i have another idea tinkering through my head.

Hey all, sorry to all of you who I didn't manage to get back to in time, as all I've been doing non stop is working, working and working since I got back to Auckland from the track day. I only got a min now so I'll type up a lil report.

I got up at 7 to be nice and early this time but somehow, I still managed to be late enough to miss out on 2 sessions on the day!! How the heck does this always happen to me??

Right, well after being able to actually pit in and set the bike up. I changed the jet size to play it safe and taped up the radiator to optimise runing tempreture of the bike. Then as the bikes went, I had to whip the tyre warmers off. Then warm it up to atleast 60 degrees before I could actually rider her out there.. So I was just sitting there doing the "Ring ding ding ding ding, Ring ding ding ding ding..".. About 5 mins had gone by... Then as soon as the right tempreture hit, I got away from the pits.. Had to try dumping the clutch about 4 times before I actually got moving on the powerband (so not used to starting on 125cc gp bike!)

I went around conservetively since it was the first time I was riding a bike again on the track since months, not only that but it was on a completly different type of machine to what I was used to.. Then as soon as I got to the back straight, the revs wouldn't go high enough.. Meaning jet size was too large and I was runing too rich, d'oh!! Then the tempreture reached sky high as well because of the wrong taping of the radiatior. So after not even doing 1 lap, I came in.. let it cool down but by this time this session had ended as well.. Damn! 3 sessions gone to waste!

Time came for the next run and I had already gone down a jet size and the atmospheric tempreture also slightly dropped.. So according to my calculations, I should have been just right. Then I only use half as much tape on the radiator to avoid over heating.. Again I was bliping the throtle to get it up to temp "Ring ding ding ding ding, Ring ding ding ding ding.." One thing that you can instantly feel about these bikes when you are on em, is that they vibrate like a bitch.. Just before I got ready to go out with the right temprature, I put my left foot up on the foot peg and it just popped right out! lol The vibration must have undone the foot peg. So I quickly put it back on and went out... Unfortunatly this time, the washers from the gear changer on the foot peg had come off and now I was limited to only second gear!! grrrrr... Not good! So I came back in to try and sort out the problem but by the time we did sort it out, this session had ended as well.. WTF?? lol By now I had done 2 half laps so I guess that could count as a lap? lol Most of the people already left by this time.

OK, as Loosebruce said, 3rd time's a charm, I had my fingers crossed as this was the last session for the day. I went on the track and the tempreture was perfect, Jetting was near perfect, only slightly richer but that's perfect for me anyway because I wana play it safe. After trying to remember which way the track went, I got a bit comfertable with the 125. I then finally got to have a bit of fun. It is unbeleavably light and nible and I was free to pick my own line almost cause you didn't have to strugle to stay on the track while having it pinned. Over john deer, you can go wide, stay tight or hang loose down the middle, what ever goes with the 125 which was pretty unusual for me. For 600s it can be a bit scary with a wrong line over the hill but the 125 was pretty crusie. Going into Jennan was pretty fun too.. Actually the whole lap, every where was fun on it. I am happy with it's peformance! TS clocked me doing a 1'14 so that's OK for a first session on a 125 I guess.. With a lot of work and practice, I sure as hell do hope I can chop off a few secs off that time in the future. Anyway, I had heaps of fun in just thoes 20 mins so that's all that matters to me.

So far I am glad that I have gone over to the 125s because I am understanding a lot more about bikes and racing in general and I am getting a lot more organised with myself.. So there just might be hope for me yet..

Anywho, it was good to meet you lot and cheers for the help everyone that helped.

My next run on the 125 will have to be race day on the 2nd of October, 2005. Which Round 1 of AMCC so we'll see how it goes. I am not ready by any means but it's all a learning curve.

Cheers!

P.S. Sorry for the piss poor report but I am rather sleepy and tired.:zzzz:

I was running 28/29 , I will give you a call later mate

quazi--on mella yella I run 27/28 if it helps.
mate the top of the "hill' is always either a head shake or if I get my weight far enough forwards its a wheelspin. Hit jennian wrong and you hit the bump that gives the bars a bit of a slap.
theres a few other nastys out there to give ya a wake up.
Its not that its worse than Taupo -you are just going a shit load faster is all.
-In my muddled way all Im saying is thats what pukies like -you kinda get used to it.-eventually you find a sweeet line that works for ya
