Okay i'll be the first, the number one favorites would have to be Rick and Henk as long as they don't kill another cdi unit. Brenton's rig is super reliable and has the speed to keep up with Rick and Henk, will depend on how the crew running it work together. The dark horses would be Scott and Kerry, former champs but not sure about reliability [ sorry guys ] and possibly Team Lawrence, have seen their rig out in front at times. Any way that's my choices and can't wait to see it.

Have nearly finished putting another air-cooled 100 together for it, will fire it up in weekend so hopefully no pushing required [ although it could be another three lap hand grenade ] Sidecar is available for anyone that wants to try it. Including if someone wants to run it regularly after GP weekend, i wont be running it for rest of year so have a chat with me over weekend if anyone is keen

If you can bring it, there will always be someone to pilot it.

Just looked at the "10 day forecast", fine, fine, fine etc.....wet!

Bet anything that will be a crock of shit, but....might put some padding in my elbow armour just in case.

Looks like i am joint favorite so far, must be my new hot swinger for the GP, she is also going to be riding it in the other races after the GP. Be good to see your one down there as well Wildman. On Sunday at the track we will see if we can get 3 in the truck to bring down, maybe postman pats (brian & Mals )

Can't wait for the day and I'm not even racing, it's going to be a hoot. For my two cents safe money would be on Koba on the blue rig, reliability could be the key word and the blue machine just keeps on going... Plus I have the utmost faith in young Malcolm and partner doing the business.

Anyone know who it is? And more importantly do they have any clue what they are in for?

As I see it at the moment, me and Scotty were on our Rig (Griffiths), Regan could maybe pilot Wildman's, but we are short a swinger. If we have so many rigs, either Wildman can be let off the hook, or another Swinger needs to be roped in there too. He will probably have to be an Aucklander as all our GP registered guys would be spoken for.

So another possibility is that Regan could jump on the rig with Koba? Maybe they could have a fight to see who pilots?:girlfight:

Had a bit of a shaky start today, engine wouldn't rev out and missing, problem CDI, hmmmmm sounds a bit like Henk and Rick, swapped out my spare and it's running better than ever, the Loncin engine is great but the 50 cent CDI's are really crap, mental note always carry a spare!

We didn't exactly have a trouble free day either, fuel issues on the out lap of race one caused by a crimped vacuum line followed by a broken throttle cable after a lap.
Bludged a cable off Warren and bodied it in for the second race where we got beaten fair and square by Brenton and Andrew.

It was some good racing, managed to get a 34.8 lap in :) pretty much pushing the limit. I think the 16 tooth front sprocket we fitted for today worked well, the rig still pulled ok, and I'm sure it will be a boon for Tokaroa, being a longer track. I'm not sure what today did for the over all seasons points but it must be getting close at the top.

Ok Seymour, you get Reagan to ride wildmans, & i will find a swinger for him ( let me know if thats not happenen. Aida is swinging for you Pumba all sorted. If there is anyone else wanting to ride or swing that have full licences let me know ASAP & i will see if i can fit you on one. OH yeah & racing was fun today, had some good battles with Des & trying to outdrag the 2 top guns to turn 1, It will be a great sight to hopefully see 10 sidecars on the grid this weekend. If anyone knows of any others sitting in garages, please get ph nos as this will be the ideal time to get others into this. There are 2 new ones still being built in Auckland.

Des & Erika (blackwidow)
Richie & Will (enterprise)
Scott & Kerry (team Palmy)
pumba & Ieda (battletruck)
Rick & Henk (pancake)
Gordie & Tina (scooter)
Koba & koba mate (brentons bulldozer)
Chris & Tracey (stockcar)
Reagan & Moose (wildmans worm)
Steve ? & no name (postman pat)

sorry if you dont like your sidecars name, thats all i could think off ( you can change if you want )
The Henkstar has said the GP race for us will be 15 laps, & then we will have other events after that. Remember some of the owners who have let us borrow bikes for this event are coming down so they can ride them after GP in the fun events, & Im sure there will be alot of swapping around of rigs.

15 Laps? Shall we start a new poll as to how many will still going at the end? Counting down the sleeps. Can any one remember back in the day did we ever grid up double figures?

racer40
3rd March 2014, 18:37
Not sure about numbers in the GP or even exactly when it was last held, but when i first started in bucket sidecars in the mid 80s we had 20 odd at hastings kart track, was usually a doz or so at the whakatane street race & sometimes big numbers at Ohakea. lets hope everyone has a good time and all finish, if you cant catch the one in front slow down and play with the one behind, so yoiu dont thrash the rigs to much, still really good fun battling with someone.

Might be a case of trying to avoid burning and moving chicanes?

Think the 2000 GP had about 10 Rigs. GP was always a 20 lapper too, but that's just crazy talk...

Well WHAT AN AWESOME DAYS RACING YESTERDAY, seems my predictions weren't to far off. Rick and Henk now NZ Bucket Sidecar champs, Chris and Tracey second and Koba and Alan third. [all three places were on sidecars designed and mostly built by Brenton. Does he get the manufacturers prize?] If there was a prize for the dark horse of the meeting it had to be Pumba and Ieda on the Battle truck, that thing was flying and i thought they had the tittle sewn up until fate intervened, never mind Carl next year mate. Was good to watch the scooter rigs battling it out and was very entertaining. Hey Gordie when you going to build one? you looked right at home on one. Sorry to Reagan and Moose that once again mine wouldn't run right but not ready to give up on the two stroke just yet and at least mine wasn't the only two stroke to die, although Team GPR was definitely producing a lot more horsepower with their engine. And can't forget Des and Erica good on you's with your second place in the Sidecar Endurance race. Overall i thought it was a great day and thanks to all those who helped to make it happen, hopefully there was enough interest created to further grow the Sidecar class

Chris did more than that, and put up some prize money. thanks to those who came down, Cully and I loves watching them, and seeing the expressions of governing lol

thanks also to Team GPR for the dog tags, that was awesome.

actually, you guys and gals did a great job, and I hope next year will be same if not better.

Congrats to all the Sidecar entrants, great effort lads!! Top stuff to Henk and Rick, well deserved guys.

Our efforts came to little, its all or nothing with our Rig it seems! Came out in first practice and was slewing terribly, over-inflated tyres. Just as we were going to try a little harder, the tie rod on the handle bars decided enough was enough and the threaded rod at one end sheared off, causing us to fly off the track. Disconsolate we fixed the above, went out in second practise and put in the third quickest time with one semi flying lap of 59 secs, the second lap brought on a terrible vibration in the motor, and that was that as they say. So only one full completed lap in total!

So, out without firing a shot it would seem. Better luck next time I hope.:no::bash::weep::angry2::thud:

PS: If anyone from the Formula Tokoroa, F4 or F5 would like a dogtag for their class but did not get one, just fire me a PM with an address, or see me at the next North Island Round in April.

What a great event, thanks to the Auckland bucket club for organising, hope you do it next year as well.
Congrats to Rick & Henk on winning the GP, thanks to the GPR team for the medals, & thanks for to all the other sidecar teams for turning up, whether you were the owners or someone new riding them, it was great to see this event being run again. Now that there is still alot of hiype from the event we all need to try and find all the old sidecars from around the country & get them sold on so we can have even more for next year. there are rumors floating around of a few more being built which is good.
Bad luck to Pumba who was really showing a good turn of pace and the racing for the first 5 or so laps up front was great to be in, also bad luck to the GPR team, & warren, but i am sure both bikes will be back better than ever. also thanks to Brenton for getting the scene going again in Auckland buy building some sidecars ( top 3 in GP all built by him ) hope he builds another dozen !!!!
Everyone i talked to said there sidecars would be back for next year so we have 10 already, thanks again, Chris
