Well on sunday the 11th i'll be looking at starting out with PF and the slow-medium ride. Then heading from wellsford up a loop of sorts I did ages ago. Will consult a map for a refresher but it involved some awesome twisties, quick sweepers and a few sedate straights. All welcome but the pace will be medium (me) to fast. :woohoo: :woohoo:

This is the route. It has a bit of motorway riding but we can skip mangawai and just come back the way we went or something i dunno.

no point doing that loop without doing the brynderwyns bit. go up them then down again and carry on with your loop. theres a nice cafe at the top. aff man be careful cause theres a few corners.
The brynderwyns are queer - I always go the long way...
oh, and yea I'll be there :devil2:

Recommend filling in Whangarei as well, but I will be filling at Maungatapere. I have to go pass there to go to Whangarei or anywhere South as I live on Mangakahia Rd. This makes Maungatapere a good meeting place for me. Rung Pam and Kevin. They might be able to join us there after Milking.
Recommend leaving Maungatapere by 9:30am (no later than 9:45) to make Wellsford by 11am using to following route:
Maungatapere - Otaika Vly Rd - SH1 - Maungakaramea Rd -Turning left at Maungakaramea on the Rd that passes Tauraroa Area School - Turn left onto the Mangapai/Oakleigh Rd - Then first right onto Oakleigh/Paparoa Rd - SH12 - SH1 to Wellsford.
Here We'll meet the other KBers and join Aff & Lou for a hoon back home:devil2:

oh, and yea I'll be there :devil2:Agree with John here. Plenty of good Twisties on the route Aff is taking without messing with the Brynderwyns. Too many :Police: and  cagers. Besides the Pizza Barn at Waipu is the best and we would have eatten at Wellsford anyway. Why have another Kai stop?

The last few times we went through, the Pizza Barn has been closed.

The means that, if they leave Westgate by 10am and go via Helensville, they will not get to Wellsford until well after 11:30am (it may even take them longer than that). If Pacidfemme could conform that this is definitely the route they are taking, then the Whangarei lot would only have to leave Maungatapere by 10am (and not 9:30am as I had posted in the above quote).

Ant and I rode a good part of Aff's route today but going the other way round.
The Oakleigh/Paparoa road has some pea-metal on the corners on the Northbound side of the road (mainly on the Whangarei end) and a good sink-hole on the same side if you head to Maungakaramea (and not Oakleigh).
The road from Mangawhai to Waipu via Langs Beach and Waipu Cove is looking good.
With the pea-metal in mind, I would recommend you reverse you route Aff, and go:
Wellsford -Te Hana - Mangawhai Rd - Waipu Cove Rd - SH1 -Oakleigh - Oakleigh/Paparoa Rd - Maungaturoto (SH12) - and back to SH1 at The Swinging Cow Tearooms (at the SH1/SH12 T-intersection). This would lessen the chance of someone crapping out on unseen pea-metal.
By the way, at a easy pace it took Ant and I less than 1hour to go from Maungatapere - Otiaka Vly Rd - Maungakaramea - Oakleigh/Paparoa - SH12 to The Swinging Cow Tearooms (SH1/SH12 T-intersection). So The Whangarei riders should be able to get to Wellsford via this route in well under 1 1/2 hours.

Cheers RIB what ever you think best.
On another note hey ant what was that road that we went on that me CK and the rest ended up waiting at the gas station for ages on. That was a bloody good road both ways??

Not really sure mate, I'm thinking Otaika Valley Rd (if the gas station you're thinking about is Shell).
As for the pre-route check we did yesterday it was bloody awesome, got myself in 'the zone' for a while down Paparoa until the damn Ulysses distracted me. Got back into it after we arrived at the Tearooms @ the Brendys.

Aucka's are going via Old North Rd. We'll need to leave no later than 9:45am from Maugatapere (going via Oakleigh/Paparoa Rd) to meet them at Wellsford by 11am. If you're running late, go via SH1 and meet us at Wellsford (and then join the ride back up with Aff and Co.:Punk: )
