Recently picked up a 1978 Kawasaki KZ400 which is on the Australian LAMs approved list (398cc) but I didn't see it on our LAMs list here in NZ. Does anyone know if it is or not and I've just missed it? Thanks.

I got a form from the NZTA re: LAMs to get the bike on the list but they want to know what the Power output (kw)(at flywheel) which I have no idea ... anyone have any idea of what it might be I can send the form away and get it approved. Might help others as well with this model bike. Cheers.

Pick a number that seems reasonable and gets it under 150kW/ton? If you don't know for sure, how are they going to prove otherwise?
Include a copy of the Aussie approved list...

Should be able to piece together enough info for them to give it the tick.

Spoke with the head of licensing and she's onto it. Just sent through the exemption form and they said they'll do what they've gotta do at their end but given that the Z440 is Lams approved the KZ400 should be fine. From what she explained the list is forever growing as new bikes come to light so just a waiting a game now while they check out the specs but given that it's a 36hp bike with the 440 being LAMs approved and sitting at 42hp I can't see it being a problem. Time will tell I guess.

If it's good enough for the Aussies, it's good enough here...
