Chances are slim to non-existant. It's a have, mate.

yeah i sort of figured that, i've sent them a txt so i'll see if anything comes of it, i'll make sure i do change of ownership and all that before taking it, check it out with the cops and check if any money owing if i get a reply that is

Change of ownership happens after you've exchanged money. You will be donating $3000 to a crook.

actually change of ownership can be done before money changes hands, i also have contacts who will be able to check this out with police, debt organisations, etc. so i'll make sure i'm not buying a stolen/ debt ridden bike, i'm not an idiot, the question was how much of a step up would it be from my vt250f

3k..?? pfft.. right..
as for jumping from a 250 to a thou, it's not the smartest thing you can do, but if you nana it for a while and get used to it and not be stupid, then you'll only kill yourself if you're really stupid.

I went from a CBR250 to the 636, and that was a hell of a jump. Couldn't imagine jumping on a thou from a 250.. but you wouldn't be the first. Had a SA mate who went from a 150 to a TLR thou.. I think he's still around, but he's been riding bikes of varying type for years and years..

Pretty sure i know who owns that bike as well, he lives out Tauranga way, owns a blue 04 ZX10R as well, not many R1's with those mufflers on them that i know of.

But in hindsight of your question, the chances are 50/50 same as any other bike, the great thing about bigger cc bikes is torque, if you treat em with some sort of respect they are easy to ride, just dont rush yourself in to it.

I went from a ZXR250 and as soon as i got my restrcied i brought a my 1st TL1000S, i had max respect for the S (still do) i didn't rush it and even got the track when i could to explore it a bit more (well recomended track days to gain rider skill).

Just take it easy, and realize you will be getting to corner a heck of lot quicker then the ol 250.

so from the sounds probably not a good idea, i'm just a bit of a sucker for a bargain (although i do ask all the right questions first) might stick to my original plan of hanging onto the vt250 till i can legally ride a bigger bike then get a cbr400 or zzr400 or something in that range

Just one of the reasons why the 250 thing is all wrong. So you can ride a 250?
Do the same on this and it's history. Start with this baby and you will feather the beast untill you know what you'r doing. Well that's the theory. To say the same thing another way I doubt if you would be asking this question if you were allowed the 'yamaha' as a first bike.

You're an idiot if you do a change of ownership before money changes hands. Bike and rider disappear, and whatever bike ends up with your plate on it generates tickets that arrive in your letterbox. It's a complete have. No one sells an R1 for $3000, unless this is their last gasp at getting the next 6 weeks worth of P.

As for the question you really want answered, it's up to you.

ey bruce wasn't that the R1 on the ride to waihi the other day??? Maybe the price is missing a "0". I went from a 250 to a 400 to a 600 and after doing so i realised i wasted money using the 400 as an intermediate step. That being said , when i just got my full i had a bit of a go on CK's gixxer600 and that was a mighty step up but after the 400 riding 600's wasn't as much of a shock to the system.
If you take it easy you should be sweet though.

Considering it's in Otago, there's no plate, and the text of the ad sounds suspiciously familiar to every other scam 'busa etc (title - all accessories etc), I'd suggest the sellers name is some unpronouncable Nigerian one.

yeah it was a bit of a joke i'll be the first to admit, i mean i know it's a scam, it's just well so tempting to go and have a look at, will just stick to the original plan and get a 400

I stepped up to a Kawasaki H2750 in 1980 after starting on S1250 triple in 1977... a bit different to a R1,but at the end of the day it comes down to how far you turn the throttle..if sensible there is no real problem... There is also that system they have in England based on HP instead of capacity..makes sense if you are a 6'5" 250 lb Newbie, riding a little bike may be more dangerous?.

There are plenty of those scams..but in this case the bike is supposed to be in Southland..wouldn't you part with the cash on picking the bike up ?..There was a post on TLP where a young guy sent a deposit of over US$2000 with the other half payable when the bike arrived from Europe.. of course he is still standing by the letterbox waiting....

Been riding a while now but I would never have done it, 250 to a thou is just asking for a dumping. The first time you get a little cocky you will end up chewing stones and spilling cash. I would go for something a little more like a bike than a strap-on rocket mate! Be nice to yourself go for a nice little sv650 or something. :hitcher: :sherlock:
