I already have a car licence, for 24 yrs, IF i get my class 6 motorcycle licence I know i need to do a specialist class 6 motorcycle theory test, but do I also need to do the basic theory test on road rules as well, since i already passed that one.

I had my 1F before I got my 6L, and I'm pretty sure I had to do the full theory test.

To me the test looked like a mixture of both, basic and specialised questions.

But seriously, 24 years is a very long time. It's probably a good idea to brush up on the roadcode anyway.

More info here: http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/roadcode/motorcycle-road-code/index.html
and here: http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/roadcode/motorcycle-road-code/theory-test-questions/

You can practise here: http://www.drivinginstructor.co.nz/?page_id=996

But there could be other questions in the test or they could be worded differently.

You do a full theory test, and there are a selection of motorcycle specialisation questions amongst them.

See http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/roadcode/motorcycle-road-code/theory-test-questions/

As Trebor says, you do a Theory Test. If it's for motorcycle, then the specialist questions are on motorcycle related. If it's for a car, then the specialist questions are car related.

Good chance for you to brush up on your knowledge of road rules, as you'll get tested during the practical tests anyway.

yes you are most likely right, I've been putting it off, as you get older , it becomes harder to study. those two books they give you are about 95 pages each.
