As an investment, well it depends on the asking price.

I like it. I still don't think it will be worth anywhere near as much as the 2 stroke Suzukis like the RG500 as an investment.

For a little more you could have this.

NAR RG500

These are an extremely rare bike compared to an RG500.
They also did feature a lot of upgrades from the stock model including dry clutch, steering damper, cool big bore exhaust, flat slides, close ratio box, hand laid fibreglass one piece tail, electronic fork damper adjuster
Although this bike in the link has an incorrect exhaust and the forks are not the original units. So that would drop it's investment value.

Now I reckon that makes the Yoshi look like great value. One of 100, compared to just an RC30.

Really? Exclusivity ensures this will always be more collectable than a production line RG.

Might be a good bike but vehicle investments that appreciate markedly have a place in broader popular culture or are iconic. 'Tis neither but a curio.

And thus the RC30.

On the GSXR750R there was at least 1 in NZ a white one I rode it while working for Mike Vinsen MC back in the mid 80's , when you put it along side a standard 1 you notice the dif/changes eg remote ressie shock, bigger brakes, 1100r fairing and exhaust, dry clutch, smooth bore carbs. From memory it cost the owner 15g when a standard 1 could be had for 10g, they even came with number boards to bolt on etc.
A standard bike will always fetch more then a modified one unless it's a race bike.

Probably better to choose an old bike as you like it rather than for its investment potential.
I'd be temped by this as finished probably worth 15-20 k

Wrong there mate. As cool as the RG500's are they made shit loads of RG500's (by comparison anyway) and they were mostly the same. The Yoshi GSXR on the other hand is a very limited run model which makes it desirable and very collectable.

Bah, like they are any better than any other top end sport bike. Actually there have been a few average ones over the years. Collectable jap sport bike - hmmm first model CBR900? CB10000's are getting better coin, Z1300 better, Z900 etc - interesting that the milestone 'sports' bikes are sleeping .....
Anyway the key words were 'I would ...'
Different strokes and all that, a old gizzer does not float it for ME as a collector piece. Current ride would change too if I had coin, but I don't so one can only dream of the perfect garage.
