thought Id ask on here, is there a service between the wellington airport and the wellington ferry terminal?
Been having a look around and I can only find comments about a taxi between the two (which apparently takes alf an our) is a taxi the only option? any idea how much one should expect to pay for said taxi ride if its the only option?
will be flying back into the country and heading south by ferry later this month, so trying to figure out travel since I know fuckall about wellington

Taxis from the airport are stupid expensive. Even though the airport is probably the closest to the city of all the city airports in NZ. I live about 5 minutes drive from the airport and the last time I caught a taxi it was $20 - and the driver was shitty about losing his place in the queue.
There is a bus/bus combo that you could take - depending on what ferry you are catching.
The airport flyer bus (91) from the airport takes you to the railway station for $9 (flat rate). If you are going on Bluebridge you can walk from there. If you are on Interislander there is a bus which goes from the train station to the ferry terminal. It used to be free but now it costs $2.
What day of the week and time are you landing? If I'm free I'll take you.

Sunday is probably the best day for me - just give me a little advance notice if you need a ride and I'll let you know. I know stuff all about motorbikes, and so happy to help others here in ways that I can. I've been the recipient of some astounding generosity through people on this site.

Catch the Airporter bus. Get off at the Railway Station. Catch the ferry bus (if you're going to the Interislander). Get off at the ferry terminal. If you're catching the Bluebridge, just cross the road at the Railway Station.

There's a local airline called Sounds Air which you may want to check out, I know they do cheap flights to Nelson. Nice flights too - small (12ish seater) planes and low the whole way over the sounds.

x3 on Sounds Air. If you get stuck in Picton give me a yell and I can run you through to Blenheim depending on the time of day.
Otherwise go Bluebridge. Depending how much luggage you have Interislander is walkable, but fark it, support private enterprise (that is cheaper anyway) and all that jazz ;)

That approach works. Bear in mind the bus for Interislander leaves about half an hour before each sailing.

Given the state of the ferries recently you've probably made the right choice. I've done that flight a couple of times though and it can be very interesting depending on the weather... I hope you like rollercoasters ;)
