I will be this time.

I was very tired after yesterdays ride 420+ k's, not good having a tinted visor riding in mixed conditions :brick:.

Strange seeing some road works getting done, yet the places they need to repair haven't been touched. They must think the uneven surfaces by Cheviot are a tourist attraction.
Still a good day out though even if we did get stuck behind those funny stripped cars.

Whoah, atleast you are still typing that's good. So far I've counted 6 motorcycle fatalities on the web and papers. Glad you are ok.

How bad is the damage?

I think there was a lot of tar bleed there, but how about those hairpins (or near on) where within 2 weeks, and that is no exaggeration, of resealing the entirety of one there were lips, potholes and a weird chamber on the outside that makes people want to cut the corner (in the south lane) amongst other things...

Whoever is calling the shots on the roads around there is a fawkin spoon.

That project on the Hundalees is being carried out by Downers. 'Nuff said!!!

Went for a Boxing Day jaunt to Hanmer to catch up with whanau - very pleasant.
The day was so good that I decided to take the long way home.
Left Hanmer 1530 hrs, shot over Reefton, fueled up, and continued on to Jacksons for a panini and coffee. Sat in the verandah shade, very nice. Spotted a couple of 'Busas whistle past...
Continued on, home just after 2000 hrs.
Great way to spend Boxing Day

A couple of the guys have errands to run tomorrow arvo so an all dayer to Tekapo is out unfortunately... We're going to do a breakfast run to Windwhistle instead, route as per attached.

We're meeting at the Mad Butcher (opposite St Bedes College), leaving at 7.30am... If that suits anyone else feel free to join in.

To avoid confusion, both rides are still on:

7.30am at Mad Butcher (cnr Main North Road & Northcote Rd) for an early ride to Windwhistle; or

9am at Z Petrol, Cashmere on Colombo St for a ride to Lake Tekapo.

Safe riding everyone!!

Avon City Suzuki is having a shop ride next weekend if anyone is interested.

Farewell Summer Shop Ride

Christchurch to Arthurs Pass

Saturday 12th March
Meet at Shop 9:30am for 10am Departure

Be sure to arrive with full tank of fuel
All makes, models and skill levels welcome
Dangerous riders will be evicted from the group

We know, we know – we’ve been extremely slack on shop riders over Summer, it’s only because we’ve been so busy! We are definitely overdue to blow the cobwebs off and make the most of what’s left of this beautiful weather lately, so we have organised a shop ride from here to Arthurs Pass for a bite to eat, a couple of giveaways and some great yarns.

No matter what bike you ride and no matter your experience or skill level please join us for a fun, safe day out on 2 wheels. The ride will be led by our very good friends David and Steve and will be suitable for all riders.

If the weather looks questionable on the day please phone the shop or check our Facebook page to confirm the ride is going ahead.

Share with all your friends and we look forward to seeing you on the 12th!

This thread isn't dead, it's still a bit chilly for some of the rides we were doing last year.
I put a new set of PR4 GT's on the Bus today, and since I was out that way I pootle down to Geraldine.

The WNR last year was dead no one turning up and the weather wasn't the greatest, also going to the same places gets boring.
I'll save my pocket money for the Weekend Rides. Just have to take some more photos for you peeps to show what your missing out on.

Hi guys, I'd say I'm a new rider here.. But I don't have a bike yet, waiting on a vehicle to sell to fund a purchase.

Anyway, I see you all talking about routes such as 'The Block', I had a quick look but couldn't find much. Is there a listing/map of popular routes around Chch?

The Block is not one particular route there is a lot of different ways to travel, and it depends on who suggested the route.
In short head towards Nelson via any number of routes then loop back to Christchurch or the Lower Block would be Hokitika, Wanaka then back to Christchurch, whatever way the ride goes it will be a day trip.

Oh, so.. Quite a distance then. I need to find some shorter rides to head out on, get some practice and more confidence before I take on anything that big!

There are quite a few good shorter rides. Akaroa of course, but best done on a weekday I think, it's a 2 hour ride depending on where you live. North through Waikari on some back roads to Culverden then right through Rotheram, Waiou, Leader Valley to Cheviot and home, 3 hrs, although the earthquakes may have damaged a bit of this route. Arthurs, Greymouth, Reefton, Lewis pass, home, about 6 hrs, better to go the other way around though since the Lewis is the good bit and you may be a little tired by the time you get there otherwise. A good short run is go towards Akaroa but take a left at the Blue Duck, or whatever it is called, through Gebbies pass, through Teddington to Governors Bay and then either Lyttleton and the tunnel or Dyers pass. I do this one on my way home from work sometimes. There are some flatter runs out Lincoln, Springfield, Motukara etc.

Cheers

Day ride??? :shit: Are you completely mad or just young and full of motivation/energy?
That is quite a ride for one day especially with the road works and trucks etc on the Lewis pass.
If you want to go South, I'll be keen. I just went through Queenstown, Cromwell, Alexandra, Invercargill and Bluff, then back home through Dunedin, Oamaru, Timaru, Ashvegas etc. The roads down south are awesome and the traffic is quite light, very few cops as well. I'm riding a 99 Busa, so would be good to ride with another Busa too! :niceone:

Great ride up the inland road to Kaikoura. Was busy coming back the coastal road but excellent day.

Went on Triumph Owners ride to Bealy pub on Saturday, low traffic, minimal roadworks, pretty warm. Great ride though, met an american guy at Bealy who is going to ride the Dragon's Tail when he gets home, on a hog though, what's up with that?

Cheers

Yes a very pleasant day out for a ride, I'm thinking about having a go at Punakaiki if the weather is good last time was such a nice trip.

Getting close to good weather time and the good rides. Riding to work each day over winter hasn't been to bad. Been very mild winter.
New bike coming soon for summer. Then some varied block rides.

Finally been told bike has been written off. Now the wait for payout and then new Busa. Should be all healed up by then and riding again. Roll on summer.

What happened Craig ?

Was going home from work. Guy run a red light and took me out. Luckily worst injury apart from the bike was broken wrist. Bad intersection though. My mate got killed there 6 months ago on his bike. Red light runner took him out.
I now won't use that road to go to and from work.

Yaldhurst Road and Peer Street. It's always the Yaldhurst Road traffic that seem to run the red lights.

Sounds Good, I'm keen

I dropped the bike the other week damn thing landed on my foot all 200kg of it, worst part about it was it happened while I was parking
steep camber on one side nothing for my foot to reach leant the other way and couldn't catch it in time
