Hey,

Just wanted to give a shout out to Motorad Wellington.

I bought a Zip 50 so I'm not exactly Biker Royalty but these guys are top notch with service. Text me when the bike is ready so a call doesn't interrupt me at work always make me feel welcome, and try to fix stuff that needs fixing without resorting to rebuilding my bike.

Thanks guys.

Anybody else with good stories to share?

Jack

I bought a new Zip from Motorad and took it back for the initial service/derestriction followed by several new tyres/puncture repairs. I agree they're pleasant to deal with and text you when the bike's ready, but I wonder if they have ever seen a workshop manual for this scooter because they seemed completely unaware of basic things like tyre pressures and correct torque settings. I'd get the scooter back with the tyres pressures at 2 bar front and rear when the Piaggio user guide say 1.3F, 1.8R.

You might think OK, not a big deal and easily picked up. But they also managed to bend an exhaust stud which had to be removed (and replaced) when I tried to get the muffler off after yet another puncture. No gasket in the exhaust port either!?? The rear wheel nut was not torqued correctly as well and I'm pretty sure they reused the variator nut which is another no-no.

So for $100+/hour labour, is it too much to expect the mechanic will understand the importance of following the manufacturers recommendations about tightening nuts.

Still as Glen at Motorad told me once, it's only a toy really, not a real bike.

So yeah when you crash it because someone didn't tighten a fastener correctly you will only get a toy hospital visit

Apparently the Zip 50 2T doesn't use a gasket in the exhaust port so I withdraw that particular slur on Motorad but the others still stand.

I got a valve adjustment and some general servicing done, was cheap and quick, pretty good service I thought. My thinking is that it takes a long time to gain a good reputation and is very easy to lose so theyre probably on the level

How come you get so many punctures?

By riding along the side of the road between Petone and Ngauranga.
