Recycling Kevlar from jeans? (NOT crashed)

So a couple of years ago I imported two pairs of Sartso kevlar jeans, they seemed to have good reviews and had the largest amount of kevlar coverage on the market at the time.

Before I'd even had them three months the denim just fell apart, as if theyd been washed in battery acid. Wasnt worth returning them because Id have to send them back to the USA. Wasnt too happy :angry2:

Anyway, theyre still in my cupboard, and the kevlar is still fine. Does anybody know if its possible to cost effectively have kevlar added to normal denim jeans? Itd be a shame to just throw all this kevlar out. Never even went for a slide in them.

Most towns have small businesses that do alterations and general sewing jobs. If you don't know who they are, any menswear store should be able to tell you who does their alts. Might be a slightly different problem to usual but that should be OK. Usually the prices are very reasonable. I was quoted $65 for what I'd consider to be a more complicated job.

Be flexible about what can be done, you aren't re-creating what you had, basically you just need kevlar in the knees and hips?

Yeah pretty much. Asking the local clothes repair places is naturally the next step but thought id post here anyway incase someone else's had it done.

Two places I have had some work done on bike gear, (trousers/jacket)... The little repair shop just round the corner from the Embassy Cinema (to the left as you stand in front looking at the building) and Lesvo's in Wellington Station. They did a 'major' alteration on a leather jacket for me. (took a bit of time as the man who does them wanted the correct leather etc and time to do it right) the alteration is un-noticeable and very reasonable cost.
