Do you guys spend much time handing out tickets re cellphone usage whilst driving?Amazed at how many i see using them and after once again almost being hit by a stupid bitch using one and failing to give way when turning into my street thought i would ask if you guys spend much time pulling em over.Probably not if your out in a marked car but i would imagine you get a few in an umarked.

True, I think that this cell phone business is worse than ever now that all the errant users have realised that they are not going to get caught anyway! :mobile:

Typical eh,only gets serious when they run some poor bugger over.Never really understood peoples addiction to being on the phone the fucking things do nothing but irritate me,the one in the house is bad enough but the other is mostly ignored and only used when things are dire ie to order a feed instead of waiting.

I think the worst thing is people have got worse at "driving" with a phone since the law has come about than before.
The people on handsfree are usually worse too, in-fact from what I've seen/experienced it'd be safer to ban handsfree & txt, just let people use their handsets directly for voice calls only... Or just ban it all, but fags & coffee should be banned too

People get majorly distracted trying to put their coffee back in the holder, trying to take the lid off, adding sugar, burning themselves, & fuck if something goes wrong & it spills on their lap those fuckers are all over the place like a fucking tweeker searching the glovebox for a hit

That's simply a pisstake !!
Everyday I pick up my daughter from school, and witness the amount of idiots using their phones around schools.
I was on the BOT for 8 years, and did my own research on it. 1 in 12 vehicles (80% of them woman drivers) were using their phones when driving around the school area!! (Mostly texting). Kids wandering and crossing the road all over the place....
There is absolutely no excuse for using your phone in the car - esp. in a hazardous area like that!
Oh look, my friend kimmy has posted on faecesbook............ ***BANG*** oh, did I just run over a child?????

cellphones aren't even safe to use when parked :bleh:
A cyclist is in a serious condition after riding into the back of a vehicle parked on the Hawke's Bay Expressway.
The 42-year-old Hastings man was cycling along the expressway around midday when he hit a trailer attached to a ute that was parked off the road.
The driver had pulled off the road to use his cellphone.
The cyclist was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital with serious head and internal injuries.
Police say it appeared he was travelling "at some speed" and did not see the trailer. After hitting the trailer he landed on a small mower that was on the trailer.
The Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating the incident.
Only loosely related to tread but we know that the cyclist, like the pedestrian, can never be at fault

Nah, cops do it too so it must be allowed. Same as not bothering to use indicators at roundabouts. There are stupid humans everywhere, be careful out there. This planet is a dangerous place to be.:shifty:

That's our most modernist and also deadliest bit of road in HB. Crap like that happens a lot, people slam on the brakes to 'legally' answer their phone and cause a pile up behind them.
The cycle lobby will probably have the shoulder painted green next and ban people from stopping there.
Just about all the commuters on that road are on the boy-racer bicycles too, the ones without legally required reflectors and have silly high pressure race tyres prone to blowouts with 'not for highway use' stamped on them.
I wonder if the cops ever prosecute the cyclists or bike shops for that or is it too much paper work...
The real problem is smart phones as you need to look at them to type.

It depends really in the Time Place Circumstances really. For example a traffic fella will struggle to spot someone on the phone in the open road at open road speeds (plus isnt it all about speed :innocent:).
Front line popo in marked cars do it, problem is it depends on Time Place Circumstances once again. If said popo had an offender in the back travelling back to the Police station then it poses a problem trying to conduct a traffic stop with a possible angry, drunk, drugged, violent offender.
Then it depends on calls for service (I fucking hate that term). Front line :Police: in cities are often going from job to job and may not be free to conduct the traffic stop. Police are criticised for either taking to long or for activating red and blues for what some public believe are not priority jobs eg shoplifter, so they must drive at the speed limit, but wait there is more. If said shoplifter becomes violent Police are then criticised for not responding fast enough. Not whinging just saying how it is, I have way better things to whinge about
Then there are the unmarked cars, well the feds cant have their coffee going cold (sorry in house joke). To be fair they do write a few out because as you point out peeps don't recognise the vehicle.
Lastly is the traffic itself. hell peeps on here moan about u-turning cars (yes they were at fault, nuff said (hopefully)). Sometimes it is deemed unsafe or unable to safely stop the vehicle. The old dammed if you do dammed if you don't .
Obviously my perspective only.

I downloaded a Android speed app onto my phone. Bloody cool looking thing and handy to check what the cars speedo is actually reading. HOWEVER it is so pretty and graphic with cool colours etc that it is also distracting .......... BUT I'm not making a cell phone call and it is hands free so I suspect perfectly legal - no different than playing music on it ..................
At least when I crash the app will have a good record of average speed, distance travelled etc :woohoo:

Umm it is actually illegal to operate a cell phone whilst driving. Believe it or not it includes any auxiliary applications that the phone may have.
Paraphrasing the shit I can't be bothered searching for says some shit like blah blah blah device that is primarily used for making calls. Or words to that effect. Memory like 'n elephant I áve.
Say you use your Iphone to play music in your vehicle, I'm not talking about hands free, I mean pick it up to change music then you are operating a cell phone.
Obviously if you turn your app on prior to driving and dont touch it, that is a different story.
Man phones have come a long way since my Nokia 3310.

I've found the Ulysse to be the best free one, pretty cool to have it's saved me a couple times; I'm sure it's no surprise to anyone how often the Police gang members lie.
In a crash it's the max speed record ya gotta be careful of as next minute the gang members will be declaring that the speed at which the crash happened & issuing tickets for it

.
I'd have to drag out the exact txt but I'm positive it was fine being used as a GPS for maps etc - just phoning and txting they don't like.
There are a lot of things one can do in the car that are distracting - most new models have inbuild touch screens for audio etc etc - just as distracting.
