Hi all. Currently running Bridgestone S20's front and rear. The front has a low leak, running at 36psi front and goes down to mid 20's after a week or so. The rear now has a screw in it and requires patching.

Question is should I be running these "compromised" tyres on a track?

No.

You need to be confident on a trackday because you have other stuff to think about. Something mission critical like tyres should not be nagging at you going "Yeah, wonder if I am going to have an explosive blowout on the rear at 280kph approaching turn one?"

Also for trackdays you would START with your tyres way lower than for street pressures anyway. I usually go 28 F 26 R on my VFR. the key is to take the pressures after the first session: I am looking for say 33-34 hot from the 28 cold.

But you would be checking tyres and pressures after every session, right? right?

This is going to be my first track day so I don't know?

I wouldn't run those on the road let alone the track! Get some new S20's (if you liked them) or PP3's. Both will be great at the track and nothing beats new rubber for inspiring confidence. Around 30f/27r seems to be the recommendation for PP3's.. Not sure on the S20's.

I've just had the puncture fixed for the meantime. They have a special on PP's, they reckon they have the same grip as the S20's but last 30-40% longer. I've stuck with bridgestone for a while now as their drip is immense! I'll definitely be getting some new tyres before track day though

Try 100% longer for the pp3 on the rear, 4500k for s20 vs 8200k for pp3 and still going!

Are they just as grippy?

Yep so I think, although the sides don't rough up so much so PPs must have a harder compound that enables them to wear well.

I liked the S20s but replacing them every few months wasn't economical.
