After dropping one bike off to get fixed a friend was dropping me home. One the way over the hill on the small not far after the small hill at the top we where pulled over and checked out. All good on check out but it has been ages since I saw a non-speeding bike pulled over. Did not seem then Sunday when I went over and back. Is that common now days? Bit of a bike blitz on the weekend generally? He did mention he was targeting bikes and I know they do speed traps on that side of the hill often enough but REGO/WOF?

I thought the choice of spot was off to, just a bit uneven making two up harder to get going from. If you where motoring you'd have gone past and not had room to pull in which made it an interesting choice. Also you'd only really getting bikes heading in the Porirua direction.

I also saw a bunch of 5 or so cops pulling over motorcycles (well, mostly scooters really but not for lack of trying) on Wednesday evening (20th) on Oriental Parade. So I guess that means there is a campaign on and we can expect a little more harassment.

Interestingly there is a move in the US to ban motorcycle-only police stops:

The "Stop Motorcycle Checkpoint Funding Act" (http://www.cycleworld.com/2014/03/05/ama-motorcyclist-association-news-senate-bill-could-ban-motorcycle-only-checkpoints/) would restrict the Secretary of Transportation from granting funds to any government entity for a program to check helmet use or to create checkpoints for an operator of a motorcycle or a passenger on a motorcycle.

Can't imagine that sort of thing getting much traction here though.

And a report on Piecock for Sunday. I wonder what the US motivation for that act was. Likely it is a lobby group but even then they need some rational that sounds good. I thought it was kind dangerous where the guy was sitting, speeders would have no time to stop (as seems the case with the other poster). Be interesting to see if more people are seeing it. Seems very rare to me. Money might be better spent I think. It seems even more lame to pull over scooter riders. "Son that is 50cc of pure weapon, you are a threat to life as we know it."

Was that on Piecock? Only a lone ranger there on the Sat. I bet a few people rode past him given where he was, pretty short stop between two corners. Not a great place for say a short person with a tall bike to get moving from or people two up as we where. Maybe mind the key was not to get speeders (not a straight etc) given he stated it was a bike check REG/WOF.

Yes at that summit car park. There was a patrol nearer to Parta nui that flashed his H/lights at the 4 X 4 in front of me as well, I was tucked in behind using him as a radar block cos we were at the same speed, about 69 in a 60 zone.
Which by the way is a bloody weak limit in that area. There's a real danger of being bored to death or fall asleep at the bars.
