Hey,
Was in a hire car with a 'mate' up north and got a ticket from a fixed camera. Wasn't sure who was driving so got a picture which doesn't show the driver at all (just the rear of the car). I'm 100% sure I wasn't driving that day because I was hung over as fark, but apparently they are sure they weren't driving that day either , however the car hire was in their name so the ticket has gone to them. They want to/are going/have? transferred the ticket to my name/filled out the form to do so.
Is it worth disputing? If I just leave it will they have to pay or should I just cough up the $80 to avoid the hassle? I would have been happy to pay half without a question if they weren't being a dick about it all but think we're past that.
On the form that came with the photo it pretty much says they don't care who was speeding, not their problem, so I don't expect any help from them haha

What's your name and address? Just wondering because apparently if I get a ticket I can just transfer it to you and you won't do anything about it.
Fuck that noise mate - tell them they're paying the whole thing unless they come to the party and pay half. Or just pick up your balls and tell them to fuck right off and pay their own ticket.

Ditto this. They can only transfer it to you if you accept it. Tell them they can pay 50% or 100% - their choice.

Yeah bit of a shit cunt, especially since it's only $80. I'd kick his ass if I wasn't busy washing my hair and scrap booking all this month.
Got my first ticket last year but I had hired the car in my name and I was driving so it wasn't a problem, not familiar with this transfer thing as I was down as secondary driver. They're not pulling my name out of thin air as suggested.
If I deny it I guess the ball falls in their court again? I just don't want to get caught up in any 'justice system' bullshit that takes more time that it's worth.

Ahh, that's really all I needed to know then. Wonder if he had to accept it from the hire company? Doubt it really.
Mission accomplished. Cheers.

Quite a dick move from your "friend" and I find 80 bucks are a lot of dash. That's nearly a 1000 km of petrol for my bike.
From what I got from reading through my infringement notice, if you dispute it, this might result in a court hearing.
So option A: Ask your friend if he/she is willing to pay half of the fee. Tell them if not you'll dispute the ticket and this will result in a court hearing which will end in them having to pay the fee and the court costs.
Option B: Dispute and do court hearing.
You didn't stop for petrol or something on the way, did you? I'm trying to think of ways of how you could prove you weren't driving. Did anyone see your friend driving maybe?
And +1 for getting new friends

Yeah was just a mate, not a friend haha. They were travelling NZ and things lined up for me to share the cost of a car for a bit.
$80 isn't worth going through all the crap listed above if it comes to it. Will just pay it if it heads that way otherwise I'll just keep an eye on the mailbox. You live and learn, but I wasn't down as the main hirer by choice. It could be worse.
Will update with the outcome in a month or two.
Despite this shit it was a good trip at the time. Funny the affect money has on people (even a small amount).

I take it the car was rented under your name, If it was the company would have declared the fine to you, you can declare you were not driving (form a JP has to sign) If he also disputes it you get to go to court to challenge it and loose a days pay + court costs, pay up then beat it out of him
Next time put it in his name :P
Or get better mates
