Getting this up early, as it's my favourite ride ever.

http://www.silverbullet.co.nz/event.php?id=11080

This is one of those rides where the terrain is as beautiful to look at as it is fun to ride. Fast, open farmland, a bit of beach blasting, a monster sand dune to play on, then stop for a bit and admire the view.

Don't let the 'lead trail ride' put you off (I know it has for some riders), because the guys at the front are quick as feck, if you can keep them in sight, you're doing exceptionally well. Trail is well marked and clear regardless, I just rode the day at my own pace last year.

Plus you're helping a local school and community that desperately needs the cash.

A definite must do ride with stunning scenery.

I will start near the front and probably end up last stopping to take pictures as I go as I just cant get enough of that country, the last few of rides have been great weather :)

Sigh, dr need of a little TLC.

Well TLC it then!

Although I get the feeling TLC is an understatement and you need to replace the crank or something equally as not really just a bit of TLC.

Could probably make it is not really good enough. Don't want to spoil someone else's ride with a grenaded engine needing recovery.

Losing oil, most likely based on symptoms due to the fact it was used for commuting on southern. Seems to want a new piston and or a gasket kit. Won't really know till I crack the head. That is a few hundred in parts away.

Haven't done an organized ride. I have a WR250R, so I'm thinking of just chucking some Michilen AC10 tyres on and riding to and from the event and riding with the plate/indicators on ( dont live to far away).... Ok idea? Do you usually just rock up and sign in (no pre booking).

Also is a dual sport type helmet suitible (visor), or should I really use open face with goggles?

Thanks.

AC10s will be fine if it doesn't rain, indicators and plate also fine.
Yes, just rock up and pay the money, ride.
Dual sport helmet is also fine from a organisational point of view. They're essentially a dirt bike helmet with a visor. I'm not a fan of open face helmets, but your mileage may vary.

Remember this ride is a follow the leader, single loop ride. Can your WR do ~100k on a tank + to and from the nearest gas station(Tuakau?). Bring some food for the lunch stop, or some cash to buy some good hot food.

Yeah made a mistake saying 'open face' just ment normal dirt helmet without visor.

Will think on your other coments regarding fuel etc. May have enough.

Yeah you're all good as Noobi says, but the fuel could well be an issue. They load up utes with your fuel and lunch and meet you half way around, so either hope your bike will make it, or make friends with someone who has a habit of taking far too much fuel on rides and smile nicely at him during the lunch and fuel stop.

I have a 20l jerry can, I can be that person... :)

(PM me if you are going, we can meet up at the sign-on and sort it out, more than happy to help).

:niceone:Cheers for the offer, sure I could make it worth your while;) I have an oversize 11L tank and some capacity to bring another couple Lt on the bike, can get 200k on the tank.

Will PM if I'm going, need to sort out tyres, armor & mx suit yet. Usually just do Adventure riding.

Ah that bigger tank will help but I can still bring extra fuel, that way you don't have to fill to the brim and carry around unnecessary weight and spare fuel.

Don't get to worried about MX gear just treat it as a adventure ride and ride at your own pace. Its a similar sort of riding you would do on a Britten adv ride

Cool. Want to get one of those Leatt 3df airfit armor things anyway, should go nice under my road jacket as well, get some back protection etc.

You going?

Have a look at the alpinestar A8 as well i use one for trail rides and adventure rides. Yes we should be going out.

Just done the Orini trail ride today that was a good test of the WRR suspension.

Well looks like the weather isn't going to be great, hopefully the rain starting tomorrow-ish means the ground has softened by the time we ride, as there's nothing worse than a wet, slippery top surface with still baked hard concrete dirt under it.

Bumpalumpa.

Feck knows what the weather is going to be doing, supposed to be fine on Sunday now, but it's also supposed to be chucking it down in Auckland at the moment, which it isn't...

Still, rain or shine, I'm in.

Its been steady light rain down here, unless it pours down tonight/tomorrow it should be quite nice.

Im in as I've spent me monies geting set up. Trying to get hold of a trailor (and car with towball) off my mate... You may still get a PM from me begging for gas if im riding there:)

Oh cool, yeah hope the weather is as it's supposed to be on Sunday, it will be dust free if it's light rain at the moment :)

Gas-wise, I'll bring a full gas can anyway, then just look for two guys in a white Transit van, with KTMs and I'm the bearded one. We're aiming to be there for about 9am, give or take.

That way, even if you don't really need the fuel, I'm still happy to give you a top-up at lunch for free and if you find me before the ride you'll know who to look for when we stop.

I hope they got some rain out there to kill the dust, Sunday is looking good.

Got to sort my rear brakes (Master kit, pads etc) and a couple of other minor things but I should be there :)

Well I think I got ~10k in before hitting that jump where you go over a drain colvert... Was way to left and ended up hitting the lip of the drain (I think) with the front wheel, forks fully compressed and broke 2 spokes.

Wasn't even a big jump but I hit it to hard for my skill level; longest I've been airborne :shit:

So that ended my day pretty quickly just had to exit the trail onto a road then back to the hall.... The armour paid for itself in one day... May have fractured my hand, will see what it feels like over the next few days :baby:

Sorry not meet any of you, got there way to late was about the 3rd to last to get onto that first section.

At least I got to learn the process of getting there etc

There was another guy there with a road kitted WR250R.

Helmet-wise, if its had a reasonable knock then as a precaution I'd replace it.
