what a mission!
Had to hotwire the borrowed bike, bastards left early and had keys, finally got it started. Headed over the gentle annie, left too late and had 50km of gravel to manhandle an old katana over in the bloody freezing cold and dark. Finaly got to wairou, defrost at caltex and eat several pies. Last blast to grounds and that damn driveway. 9pm, find me mates and set up camp. skull a bottle of stones and have feeling of body again.
Saturday, waltz into wairou for breakfast and walk through army musem. The youngins ridn with us see the m,ountian and explain theyve never seen snow, next step race to the turoa ski field. Note to self, dont try mountian climbing in bike boots and full leathers again... Back to grounds in time to see hill climb and burnouts.. well done that man on green tl1000s! More beer needed, so tackle that prob... Stumble into wrong camp and found phantom and the boys. Enjoyed the fact that for 1st time ever there was a good band at kiwi.
unconsious around 3am.
Sunday, on the bikes and zoom over vinegar hill at intergalactic speeds, wait at saddle rd for the youngins on the 400s. Stop at boots and braces in woodville for breakfast. Wound the katand over the 200 mark several times on way back to hastings. Massive wkend.
 stupid fatigue, riding an old bus like the kat fast will do that though...

Its true (almost) The highlight of the rally for me was racing Pyrocam down Mt Ruapehu with our motors off breaking the posted speed limit and all in serene silence in awesome scenery

sounds like a top weekend,i WILL go next year, with luck on something a bit bigger than the mighty GNA few GNs there this year. A 250 Comet. Pyrocam took his 150 two stroke from Auckland. A gent bought a TL125 over the Gentle Anny from Hastings, with extra fuel aboard. A couple of '21 Indian Cheifs from somewhere up North. Tis not the size of the bike that really matters. Shit-forgot to give the Scooter tooters an honerable mention-nice bunch of folk and didn't torch the GB parked next to them.

Enjoyed the company of Phantom, Pyrocam, Bonez, Slipstream, Sparky Bills and Johnboy, had our own little shantytown going Good to see The Yoshie again. Good to meet Holy Roller too. Pryocam took a heap of photos, so hopefully he will put some up soon. Here is a few of mine....

Yeah and there I was thinking he was one of the virtuous drinking water inorder to pace himself and last the night but now we know better. I had a fantastic time ( no longer a Cold Kiwi virgin ) and it was great meeting a whole pile of fellow KBers. Hope you are enjoying your nice new boots Slipstream. See y'all next year and no I am not trying to hitch a ride in Sels' third photo . The GB ran faultlessly all weekend in fact a couple of times even turning the ignition off didn't stop it

Been there, done that - got the badge. Will I do it again? Ask me now and I say NO but I do have 12 months to get over it, so might feel a bit more like it closer to the time again - after all I have to make use again of all that extra camping gear, thermal wear etc that I brought especially for this occasion. Only thing that I really did not like was the access road in however veterans told me the state of it was good compared to previous years. My opinion is that this is a well run event - you just have to be either a 'kin nutter or a double hard bastard (or both) to do it.

....HELL YES!!:woohoo:

After being mocked for packing shorts and a t-shirt, I was like "who's laughing now!" What awesome weather!! Big bonfire's, drinking, loud bands...reving bikes at 2am, 3am, 4am, 5am.....you get the picture, some drinking....clowns on Thumpers with neon lights in their spokes...Naked men and a lady in see-through underwear doing the helmet dash......some more drinking, burnouts, wheelies .... drinking and there was heaps of food consumption going on too. I think next year, I might take LilMonsta in my Uncles sidecar...although, I don't think I'll let her par-take in the drinking.......did I mention there was a lot of drinking???

if you guys liked the kiwi... you should try the cold duck... (Hawkes bay in may) Its got more people than the kiwi, no hillclimb... but the wet t and dirty stripping girls more than make up for that.. Theres an awesome organised ride on the saturday and the thunder run through waipawa (theres nothin like riding through the centre of a town on closed roads in a group of 1800 bikes!) Im telln ya, its the best rally of the year! COLD DUCK- memorise it. be there

Here are a couple of photos from Kiwi (hopefully this worked)
Camped near Sparky and his entourage.
Rode KLR's up via Parapara's and Fields Track, some of the way with the KTM Super Motard boys - good fun.

Kiwi Rocked!! There we were...ya shoulda seen us... there were thousands of us. We had a pound of flounder and the Doomaluckers were conspicuous by their absence. There was Slut-Rash, Phil and co...Top blokes. Drunken Duncan had the swollen hand blues after handstanding and kissing the mudguard. I caught an eye-full of the naked Ginga at the top of the hill...Top entertainment!
Cap-Stan was standing by but young Rossi came through with the goodies...hehe! Copious amounts of alcomohole were consumed and the hangover lasted well into today.
Was by far the best(and hottest) Kiwi I have had the privilege of attending and I will be there again next year.

Does anybody know how many were there?

Great to catch up with some of the crew.
What a fantastic weekend pity about the fire ban during the day. HR Jr toasted marshmallows over the fire they were a great hit with those around our fire. Roast venison over the fire never tasted better, comments about road kill showed that they had wished they had brought some meat as well.
Entered in the slow race for a laugh but the old girl was a bit of a handful on the bumpy ground.

Had a good ride up on Friday via Masterton, Pongaroa, Dannevirke then hwy50 to hastings. over the Gentle Annie. Had a minor off (my fault, overcooked a downhill corner) on the GA (on the tarseal, too). Was very nice of the log truck driver not to run me over. He helped me get the whale upright and I apologized for the flats on all his tyres. Banged up my shoulder a bit but no real damage to the bike. Carried on to Taihape and the rally site.
Went up to National Park on Saturday morning to meet the others who stayed in Taupo for the night. Talking on the side of the road near Horopito when an R1(?) went past at easy 150, on the back wheel. If that demo was for us, we appreciated it. Back to the rally site for a while, then left to go to Whangamomona via Taumarunui and the forgotten highway. Watching the ABs on the big TV in the bar, Whanga is good value - $90 for dinner, bed and breakfast. Sunday took us to Stratford, Inglewood and round the mountain via the inland route. A very narrow road, I've been down driveways that were wider. THen Hawera, Wanganui, etc and home by 4pm, unfortunately just too lat e to mow the lawns. All in all, a good weekend.

The well travelled bike with the full faring?
After you left a couple of tractors set up in your spot, great guys though pity about their ride. We set up there each year that we have been, a great spot... far enough away from the band to really enjoy the soundz while being able to carry on a conversation.

Aaaaaaaaaaaah... good times
