View Full Version : Why are the slow people in such a rush?

I'm sure every-time someone pushes into a gap that isn't there, forces their way up the line at a merge, runs a red etc they're always one of the slowest cunts on the road.

Whats with it? they can't be 1 car back or wait for the lights but they happily cruise at a frustratingly slow speed holding up everyone they pushed in-front of. Maybee if they'd speed up to normal speed they'd have the time to drive courteously.

I had someone following too close in the fog yesterday, I was struggling to do 100kph, so pulled over to let him pass at a good passing place - he went past, then carried on at the pace I had slowed to! I re passed him, gave him a WTF, gapped him a bit, and he stayed there after that. Must've been using me as a guide dog.

I think some folk suffer from constant speed syndrome. Generally between 65 & 85 kmh except for over taking lanes , two lanes x 65kmh = 130kmh.
They will annoy the shit out of you for miles on perfectly lovely road and then carry on at the same speed in a 50 kmh zone.
Just thoughtless I guess. The great uninvolved. Avoid them at all cost.

Some just like to be in front ... of ANYBODY ....

Getting a few places up the cue is a demonstration on how skilled a driver ... and how good your vehicle is ....

Ask any biker ...

Welcome to the world of the truck driver, where everyone has to pass you then drive at inconsistent speed.
Best one was boyracer in lowered POS that was hell bent on passing in wet after finally getting a gap in traffic. Then he found out how much water I'd be clearing off the road for him and sure he needed a new seatcover after aqua planning like hell. Yep sure enough left indicator comes on he wants to be behind me again...
Hopefully with the new tougher driving tests it might weed out these lax drivers.
By my house there is a FREE LEFT TURN, signposted and all and protected by a traffic island as you move into double lane road with median in 50k zone. The number of F'wits that stop because they want to move into right lane afterwards, totally incompentant. Someone will get stabbed or 4x2'd there one day, lots of nutters in our neighbourhood. I've seen cops get blocked by these idiots and they don't even ticket them...

I've only driven light trucks, but fuck I hate traffic lights (the great equaliser). Pass a whole lot of slow people doing 70km/h hit a traffic light & next thing they're caught up & in the right hand lane, course the truck don't have the acceleration to outperform these bastards from the line so it's rinse & repeat :brick:

Doubt it, Govt needs their voting public. Aside from that seeing some of these instructors/training companies in action

Course not, they weren't "speeding"

The number of times I've been behind someone doing 45 in a 50, who actually slows for the green (in case it changes?), then they breeze through the orange leaving me stuck on the red. Bah!

Fuckers.

What I really hate are the self righteous pricks who think they're "safe" because they are slow, and it's all my fault (or the fault of whomever complains) for not being mellow enough, or having an anger issue or whatever.

I think if the road planners and rule makers just accepted frustration as a normal human response and catered to it - they'd do more for the road toll than most of what they do.

you think its that end of the spectrum?
i find its suvs, rav4s, women in general and middle aged men in hybrids.
I glare at them as i pass, but they must be concentrating pretty hard on going straight ahead, they never make eye contact.
I also clap at a lot of people (well, aucklanders, if not actual people) who pull fuckwit maneuvers and dont 'get ahead' which causes some hilarity.

I have always wondered why old folks drive so slowly. I would have thought if you are in your twilight years you need to get from A to B as fast as possible - time's running out ya know.

I'm talking to you. ALL of you. Especially women who don't know their place in society. If it's a better quality vehicle, GET OUT OF THE WAY AND GET BACK TO THE KITCHEN.

The science doesn't support your assertion. Women are better at taking longer in this situation. This isn't a conscious decision, it's sub-conscious and is rooted in a spite response designed to teach others to be nicer in the same situation. Except people won't be nicer because they're dicks. The world is broken and people are only interested in breaking it further for personal gain.

I agree with that. The roads would probably be a lot safer if more people drove high.

Excuse me I always slow at any light controlled intersection and ensure no fuckers as you call them are running red lights. Happening to often and seen to many examples of it.

No, it's usually because the moron waiting for the park stops so close you don't have room to exit the park... seen it so many times :brick:

You're the idiot. What you should be scared of is cagers who don't pay any attention to where they're going, and who don't give a single fuck about any other road users.

When you're real baked it's real fun to just pin the throttle hard and do a quick clutchless upshift just before the redline. Try it some time.

Then I hate you, and I hope your cat gets rabies and bites your hamster.

Sure, red light runners do run red lights; but (yes I can see this is ironic, or something like ironic that isn't ironic but seems like it) life is too short to be wasting time at every green light just in case.

Have a look around, fine. But impede traffic? No.

I would guess that people are afraid that if they leave "too much" space, someone else will whip in and steal the space.

No, it isn't a conscious process. It is instinctive negatively-reinforced positive socialisation behaviour. It's territorial, and tribal and deeply rooted in primate behaviour.

I can believe it isn't conscious, but there would be a basis to it. "territorial" would cover the "I'll stay close so you can't take it" thing.

Nope. It's about teaching people to behave better by taking the hit and being a dick right now, to teach people how to behave in future. It's not about ownership. It's about, "Be nice and share, or there will be consequences".

Being present and aware of others would be a start... but you can't teach anyone anything (people teach themselves), you can only ask that they be present and aware. I often giggle at people not traveling at a constant speed with enough space for two cars in front of them during rush hour and then you see the same people screaming at the cars in front for not going fast enough when the bottleneck appears. Merge like a zip has to be one of the best approaches, but meh, dad always drove selfishly, shy should I drive any differently.

One of my pet peeves! I then wish to see them ticketed for speeding in the 50k area. That would be so fitting.

Green means check before moving. I have had near misses from these morons a couple of times now.

The one that really winds me up is when cars entering the motorway on ramps drive past a large open gap right to the end of the onramp where there is no space to merge, then force their way into the flow of traffic causing the whole lane to come to a standstill.

Probably dragged up as i didn't read previous posts but what gives me the shits (and Billy Connolly was onto this on his N.Z road tour) is slow drivers going into a passing lane and keeping left BUT!, as you carefully pass then, they speed up as if it's a race to the exit, in the words of Billy " Don't fuckin do that!".
