I was impressed with the skills of a said motorcyclist on a mid sized Ducati Monster (or something similar) yesterday.
I was travelling up the North bound outside lane of the harbour bridge in my warm van (doing about 20kph) when I heard the roar of a smaller loud twin, it passed between me and the car in the other lane (no big deal right) and then the guy nailed it would say he was full tap running up the white line
I'm guessing he would have got to well over 100kph easy running that white line while cars where doing about 20-30ks and I was surprised he did not loose the back end (if he'd been on a thousand I'd say the result would have not been so good)
Heaven forbid was I ever that mad, it certainly looked bad from where I was
Hope he enjoy his little Russia roulette game with the wet roads and the traffic <_<

He did what he did because "he" was OK with it (fair enough too) but unfortunately it doesn't end there!
Like it or not we (motorcyclists) have a further responsibility to our own image! (Just another temporary New Zealander etc!)
To quote Burns the poet: "Would that God the gift to give us, to see ourselves as others see us" .. and there is the rub!
Public attitudes cause us all manner of higher charges and expences just because of the perception that some of us create!
These higher costs have caused the premature end to my motorcycling days, I just can't afford to continue, damn it!
I thought that I would just ride off into the sunset and die on my bike but allas image is everything and now that image is very very expensive.

And therein lies the rub. Motorcyclists slated as wankers because of a single wanker on a motorcycle. Compartmentalisation through a lack of ability to accept that that is or was once you. Everyone is a fuckwit, I should know, I've met two of 'em.

On this occasion I got to see a birds eye view as a car driver of how motorcyclist can represent us.
As much as anything it was a good lesson for me to try to take it easier and not put innocent motorists at risk by stupid actions (as this guy did on this occasion)
Again not sure why you are taking it personally and throwing the dummy out the cot and name calling like a school yard bully adds little weight or value to the discussion <_<
PS, 40 years for me, raced in Motorcross etc offroad and Trackdays at Club level and Ridden well over 100.000ks in NZ onroad, perhaps you have done more but it wasn't completely a novices prospective that I was coming from, your motorcycle appendage may be bigger than mine ? but I don't think that's the point:no:

Yeah - good chance it was about me and my riding style (I wasn't the one you saw - but there's a good chance I've done and still do, what you describe.)
Represent us? Shit - I don't claim to represent anyone but myself ... And I refuse to be represented by straights like you. My attitude unashamedly comes from the 1%er end of the biker spectrum while my riding style can be Speed Freak - a combination guaranteed to piss of people like you. (I'd ride a fucking loud Harley if they weren't so slow and handled like shit ...) That used to be called "showing class" where I come from - but then, I just know you're going to completely rubbish that ...
Put innocent motorists at risk ??? Fuck me ... that's a big call. And you can only know that if you know the skill level and ability of the rider - not by judging their actions (unless they are riding like a complete muppet).
40 years ? Yeah .. so the good chance did not pay off. I first rode a bike in 1972 ... and "done well over 100,000 on NZ roads' .. shit, I've done that in the last seven years alone (and can prove it from mileage readings on the bikes).
So get off your fucking high horse - for some of us riding bikes is complete rebellion - always has been and always will be - and some of us ride bikes deliberately to piss off the straight world ...
Accept that bikers range from crazy shits, to rebels, to straights ... and get on with your stuff ... (but then straights like you will never accept that - and that is what primarily makes you a straight ... and what amuses me most when I annoy the fuck out of you on the road .. )

I went to visit a lady friend the other weekend. Her mum was telling me about a motorbiker who had a death wish, overtook her and must have been going 150km/h or more then swerved back into their lane and almost fell off.
Just bit my tongue and tut tutted the situation to her.... Knowing full well I did that at least 3 or 4 times on the way to her house. To pick up her daughter and go for a ride.
The mother is still under the illusion I'm a nice guy.

Ahh...the myth of the motorcycle brotherhood.
I'm with you - I am not representative of other motorcyclists any more than I am a representative of all car drivers when I'm in my Falcon.
When I first started riding, it was almost all off road competition stuff, so I was always slightly baffled to be included in an amorphous "biker" group by other people.
In the last 15 years or so, I've done a lot more on road riding, and I have to say that other motorcycle users vary enormously in attitude, courtesy, skills and class (pretty much at the same proportion as car users).
I have to say though, the most annoying types are the over the top "live to ride" dicks like the OP, who seems to think he speaks for all of us.
Anyone faster than me is an idiot, anyone slower than me is a pussy?

Love it Oscar, specially the last bit , though a little predictable.
For me I am always trying to slow myself down (like woo boy) as motorcycles can bring out the adrenalin horns very easy which I would have little issue with in a semi safe environment with the cloves being completely off on the circuit or a bike park but I think if you had seen what I witnessed you have been no more impressed either

I guess I must be getting Old then,
Had a Harley and was all that you said
In regard to annoying me on the road, that probably not likely though I wont chase someone into blind corners, am as quick as any of my Road racing buddies when I want to be
Have run at the front of Groups 1 2 & 3 at track days on various bike so am not averse to speed if required but again crazy on the road don't get my respect so much any-more.

You both seem to be missing the fact that it's the general public that are likely to see the actions of idiotic motorcyclists as representative of all motorcyclists - not other motorcyclists.
I laughed back at the time when we were fighting the ACC levy increases, when people here were saying that we need to get the support of the general public.
It's motorcyclists like those in the video who will ensure that we never have the support of the general public - if we should ever find ourselves in the position of having to fight TPTB imposing further draconian restrictions on us.

That's nice - you just go on trying to slow yourself down and I'm sure your example will rub off on impressionable young chaps everywhere. After all, it’s well known that young fellas hang onto every word and seek to emulate those opinionated old geezers like yourself who, the older they get the faster they were...
