View Full Version : Bike knocked over (Wellington)

GSW

So just went for lunch to find that my bike had been hit by a car/truck/something and was knocked back and has fallen over on to a sign post and smashed a dent in the tank .

I was parked in the large bike park on Hunter street in central Wellington.

Who ever has done it has been nice enough to stand it back up. But there was no note from the driver.

You can see where the side stand was pushed back as there is a nice scrape in the ground.

I am just a little pissed and not sure what to do.

Did anyone see this while they were in town this morning ?http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/07/yqutugyp.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/07/ruvymeta.jpg

Good luck in getting any satisfaction. It's endemic. My bike was knocked over last year, with a force which bent the footpeg bracket on the frame. It was back on it's wheels, but only because some residents of an adjoining apartment block saw it, and picked it back up, and came out to tell me they had when I came out. Never mind - half an hour with some spanners, and I could ride the 100 km home!!!:angry2:

...that looks expensive

So sorry to hear mate, never nice when your ride gets banged up...even worse when its done by some prick who then does a runner.

Check the area for cameras, ask the nearest shops if they saw anything etc...hopefully someone witness this...poor bloody bike:weep: (Nice rides those old girls )

Sorry to hear that, it does look like a nasty dent.

Same sort of thing has happened to me over the years with other bikes I've owned and never once have I had a note left or a witness come forward. Never happened in a bike park though and I don't think the wind is strong enough today to have blown it over.

I've just had to suck it up and get the bits repaired or replaced, frustrating I know.

Yep, that is definitely the attitude.

Are you sure it wasn't the wind that caused the tip over and some nice person stood it back up for you? It is Wellington after all...

So many of the things that I want to say aren't really family viewing, but it isn't vaguely windy today and I'll leave it at that.

We really do need to fence you people off.

Aaargh, one slipped out.

This is exactly why I refuse to leave a motorbike or car parked in a public place for more than a few minutes at a time. I'd rather have my cheap push bike fucked with than a comparatively expensive motor vehicle. It sucks if there's no alternative though.

From the photo, it looks as if your bike is about to fall over on its own....perhaps a good samaritan found it on the floor and picked it up for you? Hopefully that was the case.

So like i said "You can see where the side stand was pushed back as there is a nice scrape in the ground. " its about 400mm long

So the left hand clip on is bent and the forks are a bit tweeked and out of alignment... but its rideable

Check the area for cameras, ask the nearest shops if they saw anything etc

This, and do it quickly as some people overwrite their footage sooner than they should. Let them know you can compensate them for their time too as motivation if they do have a camera looking over the park. It can take a bit of shagging around to find an incident on cameras.

Feel for you, got off lightly though.
Had a fella back a four wheeler truck into my GSXR when it was fairly new at transport depo in AKLD. Tried to pretend it didn't happen and park somewhere else.
Apparently it made a hell of a noise though and the forkies saw him. Had just cancelled my ripoff insurance policy also two weeks earlier...
But had a great boss who ended the urban myth that your vehicle is not covered in private workplace carpark etc.
Trucking co paid out for the 3.5K to 4K cosmetic and lights damaged.

Mate that is some shit news right there, I work out in Miramar but everytime I've tried to find a bike park in the city i give up, and take my chances on a bit of wide footpath, precisely for this reason, too many scooter riders who think it's okay to sandwich in as close as possible to the next bike, They may treat their scooters like shit but unfortunately they treat everyone else's with the same disregard.
I''d argue you're better off risking a ticket in a non sanctioned parking spot then putting up with this, and if the council try and ticket you show them these photos of what happened the last two time you parked "legally"

Fucking unbelievable that someone would do this and just fuck off without a note or anything. God damn that makes me angry.

Everyone has access to a notebook these days, just turn on the notebook, type your note and leave it under the windscreen wiper.

(tongue in cheek, really though that sucks, I know your pain. Happened to my motard, except someone undid my reservoir tank and poured in bourbon, smashed my clutch lever off and bent my handlebars)

Sorry to see that, there are some scum out there.
The problem seems to be in part, the lack of bike parks that those council morons promised.
You would think they would encourage bikes to reduce congestion etc, I suppose its more about revenue from carparking
and fuck everything else.

Man that stinks.
I cant believe people don't report these things.
If I spotted someone knock a bike down try leave without a note idd be offering them a piece of paper.

Couple of times when bike parks are full of scooters ill park in a car park pay and leave ticket under passenger strap.
Idd rather pay than have damage if im just stopping for a cake or coffee.
Never had the ticket removed or stolen ( so Far).
If the trailers on the bike it takes up a whole car park anyway.

That really sux dude. Could you tell they had moved it? if so, how, I'd imagine you had your steering locked. Also was it on the ground when you found it?

No, again they had the courtesy to pick it up, they may have to to get their bike out from under it. And the steering was locked.
I could tell where it had hit the ground as the paint from the engine cover (blue) was embedded in the tar seal beside the bike

If kind of looks like that dent in the tank may have been caused from falling on something other than the ground. Plus it wasn't that windy today, so you can rule that out.

I've had similar things happen to various bikes of mine over the years and it really fucking stinks when that happens.

That sucks.

At a guess I'm thinking the tools that move other peoples bikes and drop them (seems to be main cause here) prob don't understand how easy it is to brush the sidestand back slightly priming it for collapse then or later.
Maybe for you urban parkers, some kind of pinlock on side stand so it stays extended???

Your probably right about scooter riders. In Italy on holiday it was quite common to see someone jammed in middle of bike parks to smash their bike sideways to make room to pull out!!!!
Guess that's why there was only scooters in parking spaces and no 998SPs!
