I liked the article,the bit about the "see the oil pump,smell the oil pump,be the oil pump" cracked me up.
And for me that is the fascination of these old timer bikes,to ride one nowadays would be a hell of a lot more involving than todays twist and go rockets.
But the fact is the majority are not being ridden...just looked at.

i know of at least two early vintage bikes ready to run in Canterbury which could be bought for around $20,000 each. And there are cheaper around too.

I can get a new Triumph at that price, and the gas for it for the next 3 years.

Vintage is always going to be like that. While I would love to own - I am not willing to pay appreciated pricing.

I have made good money of dumb mugs in the past who are though.

I am just of the mindset that I don't see old as being that better than new. Mabey the same as new....but not better.
So if a 1908 Funduzzle 45 cu = 2014 Kawasaki ZXABC 750 - wear and tear
That works out at what $10K a pop?
