When you go for a ride,, do you get coments from friends and family, like, you are too old for bikes, carry ID. the coppers may have to scrape you off the road. etc.. happens all the time.
After living in Australia for the last 4 years, Iam returning to NZ.
Sold my house. over there, so going to live on a boat
A large comfortable one..
Well Iam copping it again,, its strange how people become a person of wisdom and advice.
Even older ladys are telling me how to sail a a boat
Of course they don't know shit from chewed dates
Just everyone just opens there mouth ,, and gives absolute nonsence advice
The more they do it, the more determine I become
Coments anyone..
BTW.. Does anyone live in Napier. and know a little about boats,, need one checked out.
Cheers... Kev

Not this fucking pet food shit again?
Nonsense, uninformed or just outright wrong advice!?!? You've come to the right place! ;)
You will not meet people like this when you are out there doing something a bit different because they will be at home on the couch getting further brainwashed by the tele or in front of kiwibiker (like me ) so don't sweat it and enjoy the ride/sail/swim?.

Kev, I have befriended a few "man in the boats" in my day but have never had the desire to actually become one ... good luck with that! :killingme

My nana used to tell me with a note of sarcasm and a smile to be careful as she doesn't have spare money for flowers (funeral), at least said creatively.
For a nominal fee I could follow your Ark on kayak or observe it from bluff hill and activate PLB/call emergency services as needed. I reserve all rights to filming of the sinking though. :)
As someone else said pay someone proper to survey it.

Hi joe,, good to see you again.
Yeah have to have a bike, don't think it can go on a boat,, will park it up and just ride sometimes.
The weather here is great, but a few things here are really frustrating..
They don't sort of help us kiwis too much.
Took me 3 and a half years to get a medicare card,,
The pension is going up to 67.. and its means tested
The list goes on.
NZ isn't a bad spot,, just wish it was a bit warmer....
Cheers

Welcome back to the best part of the planet. Know what ya saying with the the nay sayers, drive anyone bonkers. At least with the boat its easy to drop them off anywhere it's wet, lol.
From personal experience owning a vessel, one quickly learns that the word 'boat' is an acronym for "better organize another thousand"
All the best with your new lodgings and enjoy it.

Surely this rule will apply differently if you have owned the boat for some time, or if you do not intend to stay in NZ with it?
Anyway, sounds fun!

Not allowed to leave nz without boat being up to cat 1 specs.....
reasonably costly..
basicly boat needs safety gear so less likely to need costly help from us when in trouble

i believe you mean ocean 1, which is some maritime safety shit (a flare pack and some harnesses, IIRC) and nothing to do with customs.

An American friend happened to be one of the first to benefit from that particular piece of bullshit. He arrived in Orks on a 60ft ketch with a US coastguard certificate of compliance and a shitload of extra gadgets. Two months later after arguing about supposedly having to replace his RIB, EPERB and a few other such ludicrous issues he simply cast off and set sail.
He's never been back. One of probably many cruisers who crossed NZ off their dance card as a result.

Epirb definitely not ludicrous.....even the Amercans have stopped selling and monitoring the older frequency ones.
Difference between old and new are enormous...both in accuracy and response time.
Quite important for a country like NZ that has to mount and finance a search and rescue operation in an enormous southern ocean.
you are right that lots of yachties didnt want to visit NZ anymore...
you got to wonder though how much of a loss that realy is.....
or rather was....
since the rest of the world is catching up

BULLSHIT. By trying so hard to disown the system, you are a part of the system. Whether you know it or not.
You sound a little like those monks in a monastery up in the himalayas that are so heavenly focused, they are no earthly good. Embrace the system, then rip it apart from the inside.:Punk::Punk:

Probably. I was simply pointing out how idiotic it was for one of the smallest, and most remote maritime nations on earth to require every boat registered somewhere else that happened to be passing by NZ to meet their unusual safety reg's. Especially when ours directly contridicted some other international systems. Take that aproach to it's natural conclusion and you'd be buying a complete new set of equipment at evey port of call.
The whole concept and implimentation was fucked up. Done properly we might have ended up with an actual professional coast guard, with all of the positive spin-offs that would have entailed. As it was it cost the NZ marine industry, (which was booming on the back of successful campaigns in international competitions at the time) a metric shitload of custom.
