The old boy saw this in the paper... Thankfully some can still read those old stone tablet hieroglyphics otherwise I would have missed it.
Is the AMCC in on this so we get included within permits and all that?

Thanks Chris. That article confuses the crap out of me though.

2 Year leases? Public Consultation? WTF!

Anyway, I had forgoton about the "volcano" issue. What fucking joke that is. I dont even get me started on Coggan, all he wants is the Rate Payers of Auckland to build him a pond where he and his mates can play. Garrrrh, he just makes me mad thinking about him, I never figured out a way to keep the pond full of water and satisfy the requirement of the regional plan (I was really starting to believe it was not feasible). Would love to see what someone else has come up with

Hahaha "volcano issue". Awesome.

I was surprised to read that the cost was estimated at $4.6M. I thought it would cost far more than that for 4? tracks, landscaping, sound control, other facilities, land costs and all the other jazz that comes with something like this. I could only imagine the pain you'd go through trying to heard the cats into this plan. I'm positive however blind that may be. This will be a brilliant thing if it is finished and functions properly.

Dont know what is included in the $4.6mill. Land costs wont be as those were covered off years ago. I would imagine we are talking bulk earthworks, internal roading and carparks, power, water, waste, and stormwater reticulation, consulting fees for outstanding consenting issues, landscaping pond construction and whatever other shared "community" facilities that the council has agreed to pay for.

$4.6mill is probably about right, if they have resolved the water and wastewater issues on the site with the "simple" solutions that were at concept level, although strictly speaking against council policy. If they have to build those to the same standard as joe blogs developer then the budget could be a bit light.

Construction of the tracks was for each of the user groups to individually fund, construct and then maintain. My memory is getting fuzzy but I am sure Kartsport was talking $2-3mill with just there facility. I don't know a lot about BMX tracks but I would be surprised to see a lot of change out of $500k. This is the reason I was surprised that they are only talking about a year lease.

To answer your earlier question, AMCC have never been a "user group" in the sense that they are directly involved. Kartsports proposal from day one was to continue all the activities that was currently being undertaken at Mt Welly and Rosebank. Not sure if anyone has discussed with them in the last few years but I know when I talked with John Conner about it he was given those assurances. Now the only reason that that may change in my personal opinion is that if kartsport need more money to finance the build and they can get more from a commercial operator on the than us. Flipside is that if they are applying for grant money it is way more attractive to sell it as a multi use community facility than a kart race track with commercial operation when we are not using it.

Oh that fucking volcano is nothing wore than a VERY gentle rise in the paddock. Indication I had was that what is left of the geological feature Tuff ring is at least 5m deep below clay and topsoil which we were never going to get close to.

I mean FFS not 500m away is a more significant crater that is shaped as nature amphitheatre. It was drained and filled in to create a nature dressage stadium for the horsey people. A couple of km away is a volcano that is actually a mountain that has been all but destroyed from mining. Fuck they built a golf course and cricket pitches, restaurants, and a observatory on One Tree Hill, a what? A fucking VOLCANO.

The other stupid thing if we had not been held up by council indecision we would have had the consent issued before the research paperhad been completed and they would have been unable to do anything about our plans.

Haha. There's not much to comment on really, I just wanted to share the article.
I can't wait for a new track, I love the challenge of learning a new set of corners.

Was in Auckland last weekend and had the opportunity to do a drive by. Buildings have been removed/demolished but nothing more has happened on the site.
