this week I've test ridden an 89 FZR250 with 25000kms, and a 92 ZZR250 with 31000kms.
They are both in excellent condition, no damage to fairings. Mechanically they both feel/sound/respond really well.

My plan is to keep this bike for maybe 12 months.
So I guess I want opinions on resale value, the best bike to learn on, the pros and cons .. y'know

I realise 4 cyclinder vs 2 cyclinder makes a difference, but speed isn't everything.

Both have the same price

what are your thoughts?

ZZR will hold value better.

I had a 91 FZR250 3LN model, had 30K when I picked it up for $2700 at Haldanes, traded it at 40K for $2500 at Hamilton Motorcyles. Go for the FZR.

If it's a 3ln fzr, go for it. If it's a 2kr fzr, stay the hell away, the carburators are made out of weetbix.

Tough luck dude. Don't get impatient and settle. You'll find the bike for you eventually. I know it's hard with this awesome weather though. :violin:

And put you to sleep.....

If you're a sports type rider - buy the faster bike and take it easy until you come to grips with things. I think the FZR is the faster of the two.

Definately. 45hp, what hp does the zzr rate at?

Around the 40's I think - but you need to ring the life out of it to get any pace at all.

In the real world 120kmph is the fastest average sustainable speed on straights. It will do 160 max out - but that's very close to engine breaking speeds and deep in redline territory.

No idea of hp, but 120-130 is about it unless the straight is very long, preferably downhill like on Peak Rd heading towards Wellsford. As you have said to me JSG, a huge dollop of your power is beyond 12k.

160 is about 13.5k ish I think in 6th gear (redline is 14k or 14.5k), but I'm not really wanting to look away from the road :nono:
