Put a small ding in my bike on Wednesday. Any ideas whether this will buff out?

Possibly, but you will need to use quite an abrasive rubbing compound

I'm more interested to know how you're faring, rather than how your fairings are faring! I spot a stretcher.... I hope you is not dead.

I agree with all the above. As you are posting I presume you slid okay????

Forget the buffing, buy loads of duct tape! Hopefully your body doesn't need any duct tape.

Autosol and Meguiers polish - the polish is expensive but worth it.

Bugger, what happened? At least it was just a Hyosung - you're OK I take it?

How come your engine exploded? Was anyone in those poor cars hurt?

I was thinking of putting it under the Arthur's Pass landslide. I reckon those boulders would give a nice finish.

Got to use that stretcher, with winkies on the way. ACC form doesn't mention I is dead, so I guess that's ok? Up and walking in about 4 hours, plus a plush overnight in the luxury A&E observation saloon.

Quite inconsiderate of it, really. Guess it saw the stop sign on my left and decided to obey.

Well ya gotta give it to the chaps at the Hyosung factory; they certainly make durable headlamps!

Here's the helmet.

Bounced once, then used as a brake pad. Or so I guess, since I was KO'ed and don't remember jack crap until the medics turned up.

Most of the gear performed blimmin well. Couple of small grazes on the knees thanks to the armour shifting a bit (too large for my skinny legs). Sore and stiff shoulder where I hit but almost no damage showing on me or the jacket. Hands & feet fine. Small graze to left shin and right hip, thanks to pointy bits of the bike?

Only bought the jacket at the start of May. Paid for itself inside 3 weeks. Not bad. :niceone:

Bugger all damage to the fabric, considering it was a heavy hit on brand new chip seal.

By the position of the front wheel it looks like you've stopped rather quickly.

Onwards and upwards eh?

Congrats on surviving.

Next time you see that dude with the long black cape and 2m scythe in his hands, park up and walk.

He doesn't usually give up after the first attempt

Well....spill the beans....who hit who and why?

I hit the car and the car won? :headbang::headbang::argh:

Springs Road on Wednesday after work. I'm heading back home to Christchurch from Lincoln and the car pulls out from my left (Stop sign) at the last moment. Just didn't see me. I had already checked the car's wheel for movement twice and switched attention back to oncoming and right.

As a guide, not an excuse: it was dusk (so shit lighting) and the intersection (Boundary Rd) had cars from all directions, along with road works across from the car that pulled out (where he was going).

I don't remember what i did at that point, which is good. The photo suggests I veered right to avoid the car, since the crash and debris is in the opposite lane. I was fairly close to the centre line deliberately to give myself space for this kind of event and better visibility (cue "KB discussion"). That probably saved my life, since I hit the front instead of a full broadside. I probably did not brake, so impact was close to 100km/hr (my guess). Superman over the top and bounce/tumble/roll/skid.

No idea, but I saw that in the photo. The only thing I know is that I didn't get up and smack it. Left foot maybe?

Good thing you walked away... not bad for hitting a car at 100!

Don't suppose you heard what the driver had to say after hitting you? "SMIDSY"?

I'm amazed that at 100km/h your bike is still right by the car. I'd expect the bike to bounce off a fair way.

Did ya do a flip?

Dunno. No memory of what happened. I hit the crumple zone and because it's right at the front of the car, I pushed it sideways quite a bit. The bike was described by the medic as "embedded", although one of the officers managed to separate them ok when cleaning up.

I'm just fekkin lucky (this time), that's what. Promised the wife that I'd leave shopping for new vehicles at least a week. But I only "postponed" my CBTA for full licence. That was scheduled for next Tuesday.

Trust you to bring batteries into this thread. :bash::killingme

I'll hopefully chat to the roading contractors tomorrow. That should shed some more light on what actually happened, since they were about 20 feet away.

Glad you came out ok. That helmet was made like in the 90s yeah? Check the date inside but they should be replaced more regularly. 5yrs is common advice (just replaced mine and realised how old it was - like about 8 or 9). Time flies.

You were wearing the same brand jacket as I do. Good to know it kept you in one piece. Actually all my gear from toe to neck is that brand. Hope I never have to product test it as you did.

now to bring in the cat biscuits, if he had been travelling 99km/hr slower (as some on here would have you believe is a safe speed) he would have been able to react and avoid this unfortunate series of events and swerve around this vehicle in a safe manner and avoid the risk of running his battery flat by leaving his bike with the light still on and there for not have the issue of whether or not it will buff out:scratch:

on a side note, pleased you have walked away from this and make no excuses for the idiot driver of the car, best you get back out there and get another bike but this time buy some cat biscuits to go with it and that will keep you safe :wari:

2001 vintage. It was next on the replacement list & by the end of this year. Has only seen 3 years of use (back then and now) and was stored properly. But yeah, I'd rather replace shit before I have to fix the whole machine 'cause it broke.

I seem to remember eating popcorn while reading a thread on cat food being run over on SH75. Or something.

And yes, there is another bike in my future. Reckon I've got fair dibs on the 'Oh Shit' fund to go with the insurance payout?

lol
Considering the speed you where going on impact....I actually think the car lost!
(They usually maim, cripple or out-right kill ya when they pull out like that:crazy:)

You sir...should be clapping yourself on the back for good road positioning (...And thanking lady luck)...as you said, being close to the centre line allowed you clear the bonet...instead of slaming into the side of the car  (sometimes, even the very worst of luck can be turned into good luck...by the smallest of actions)

...Bloody well done mate, that could have easily been so much worse.(Amazed at how well your gear stood up to the challenge...no breaks or major injuries!...bet your glad you ticked that pricey jacket up now lol)

Thanks so much for sharing with us all Taxy...its always good to read about a fellow KBer & rider avoiding such a terrible situation for a change (and a local chch KBer no less:niceone: :D)...sadly...we have lost far to many lately due to the actions of others :(

So glad your ok (Sorry bout the bike tho...the others are right by the way...that battery will go flat if keep parking like that ;))

Ride safe everyone
