I've got the 2005 Motocourse MotoGP and WSBK calendar hanging on my office wall. September has a pic of Colin Edwards on the MoviStar Honda from last year. On close inspection his knee sliders seem to be made of wood. I can see the laminations- it looks like plywood.

So, am I seeing what I think I'm seeing? Wouldn't they smoke?
Hmm, biodegradeable knee sliders.... for the ecofriendly biker...?

They're leather. I like leather better than plastic, as it feels smoother as it touches down and slides.

I love the smell of burning wood like that.. I'd be riding right behind him all the way. I'd then have to take him on the last corner, but until then...

Advantages of wooden knee sliders:
Extremely robust and up to 200% higher service life than the traditional knee sliders through the wood raw material (White beech), smaller "stick-slip"-Effect and therefore better glide behaviour

Would the riders behind get splinters in their tyres?

One of the guys in our bike club has a wooden slider - oh wait, no, it's actually his artificial leg! Got a shot somewhere of his boot toe totally missing and his wooden foot half ground away!

There was a bloke with an artificial leg when I was racing. He had an RZ350 and he used to strap his leg to the outside of the fairing whilst on the dummy grid, still contained in his leathers. N00b marshals used to get into a bit of a lather.

Edwards used to comment that Baylis had his sparkley toe sliders and he had his leather knee pucks that "smelled like ass" for the people behind :D

i remember going to a track day at manfeild with sparky bills and he was talking to a kid who went through a pair of sliders every meet. so he made some wood ones in his woodwork class.
he said they lasted a lot longer but they tend to smoke lol :doobey:

Yeah, Is Young Jay Lawrence.
Used to look good. When he passed me round the outside, I had my Sparking Knee sliders(whiched sparked) and He had his wooden ones(which smoked like crazy) Would have been a great photo! :Punk:

My old sparking sliders used to grip on the road, and actually nearly pulled me off the bike a couple of times.
Would like to get some leather ones. They last heaps longer!
