View Full Version : Oxford Riggers?

I purchased some new pants recently and they all had the same problem when buying. If the legs fit the waist is too loose because elastic does not scale well.
Does anyone own a set of riggers? Opinion?
Does anyone in Auckland to pukekohe area have a set I could try before ordering some?
Any better suggestions?
I am thinking about getting some more leather added, or some belt loops or some buckles.

Ah braces, I remember these from my youth. I refer to the female singer in the white blouse, (not the guy on the keyboard - yes that is a guy ....)

Yes I've got some I used to wear to hold up a pair of baggy overpants, you'd be welcome to try them. I'm in central Auckland.

If there was about 30% less of the total waist was elastic they would fit perfectly.
I kind of new this would be the case. Designs go away for manufacture and faithful scales are made when making the various sizes of pattern.
Problem?
Pants are normally designed for a 28-32" waist depending on market. Let's say 1/4 is elastic. That is 7" of elastic. With a give of half. That means it stretches by 3.5 inches. Suddenly the size 28" can accommodate 32"
Scale that up to a 42-44". That is 10.5" with a give of half. That means it stretches by 5 1/4 inches.
The waist is now a whopping 47.5 inches.
I am already 140kgs. And in desperate need of some exercise. Ain't no way I am going to expand my girth to 160kgs just to fit pants I won't get over my legs any more. 1tonne have done a fine job o producing these pants. Better than the more expensive brands I tried that the same issue was worse and the zips were not as good as the 1tonne product. When I can afford I will get the hips modified.

Worked like braces should I guess, elastic is heavy duty, the clips stayed on pretty much, just don't cross the braces while trying to put the pants on, that can be very, very bad.
