Having a look at this bike, does it sound like a good deal? http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/dual-purpose/auction-739838691.htm

I think its a reasonable deal. Not sure what he means by the "low reserve price so that it sells below market value for a quick sale" as its a classified and not an auction so the reserve is not relevant but maybe he's prepared to move more on the listed price?
DR's need a better seat and long range tank which is probably another $800.00 - $1000.00 but $4.5K is a good price for an 07 with those K's assuming its been maintained of course and 3rd gear isn't about to explode?

Ive still got my original pads on at 38,000 kms so that's low-ish kms for rear brake replacement. But it looks like a good deal with those extras on.

and 3rd gear isn't about to explode?
How many have you seen explode?
I think it's a good deal. If you buy it, please make sure you put cap heap screws and lock wire on the neutral switch :2thumbsup More of a real issue than the third gear one. They do get noisy in third, but it is quite rare that they "explode" and they're piss easy to split the cases on

Whats up with the neutral switch on them? Coming loose with vibration?

Yeah man. Then they decide to jump at the clutch basket. Not entirely ideal. My DR motor in the GN has a blanking plate for the clutch switch. Coz they're for pussies

Looks good to me. I have an ’08 with 30k on it, riden harder than most, so would have no probs parting with 4.5k for this.

Oh yeah, loose the stupid neutral switch on the stand and clutch lever. 5 minute job to cut and solder the wires.
Bigger tank will take the range from 200km to around 300. Handy for longer trips.

I've never seen one explode but have read and seen the pictures of a number that have.
Mine had a third that sounded like a freight train half off the tracks, it never exploded but certainly sounded like it wanted to, as we know some did. Rare or not it is a documented known issue with the DR and certainly something to take into account when looking at a buying a 2nd hand one in MY opinion so that's why I mentioned it, as invited to by the OP.

Yeah but in my time here we've only ever had one with an issue which is pretty good considering the amount of 'em we've sold. But yeah...the one weak link with them for sure

looks good to me.
The rear rack isn't stock either, it's a factory accessory. The rear indicators aren't stock.

It's a pretty rare thing, so I wouldn't get to worried about it. It's one of these fabtastic internets things, where you can have a handful of bikes out of thousands with that kind of failure, and it gets blown out of the water.

Nope, have not even asked the fella any questions or anything yet, still a few things I am undecided about. From what I can gather, this is one of the better deals out there. But I really want a brand new one and the boss( her indoors) needs more convincing. Tis a work in progress at the moment.:2thumbsup

I know of 3 bikes in NZ it's happened to, but the numbers are still low enough to be considered a rare event.

Have the new models fixed this problem, or is it still an issue? Brand new they are only $10.000. I have always wanted to buy a brand new bike that no one else has had a chance to trash, even though the one in the link looks like it has been well cared for. :Punk::Punk:

I'm to lazy to look for you at the mo :bleh: but there were two pretty much brand new ones on there a few weeks ago for 8-9k...with all the goodies you'd want (namely a bigger tank ;) ). Without a doubt a good, maybe better than new?, way to go.
Without knowing what sort of access she has to sharp objects all I'll say is it's easy to beg forgiveness than ask permission.

the $4500 price difference, not including farkles will buy a lot of gas, and she'll use a blunter knife.

Yep, second hand sounds like a go. Mate has the same year, with a bit more fruit on it, but paid $5600. And I love his bike, I may just organize an accident for him. :shifty:
Went into the local Suzuki shop today and decided I will definitely not be dealing with them.:tugger:
