I sold an item on a $1 reserve waiting for the bidding frenzy so I could cash up and ditch my boring life here and move to London and live with Rachel Khoo (oooh errrr). Sold for $1.50 so that plan went down the lav.

but a $0.50c "Success" fee meant that I had paid more than 30% to tardme.... plus the listing fee and fees for extra photos.

I did selll something I was going to chuck in the dumpster for $50 though so there's that.

Such a lottery.

Pah, sold an old mobile years ago in the same situation, only it sold for $1... 50c success fee (so that bottom end is still the same) so again... 50c "profit". The sending cost something like $8  Felt good for not dumping etc, but for 50c it really wasn't worth it.

TM knows they have a huge base of visitors, and use that to justify the expense as you can't get so many potential buyers elsewhere. However, watch for the likes of AutoTrader and RealEstate trying to steal back some of their respective markets by being cheaper.

.............Rachel Khoo.....you do have good taste, despite what the rest of KB says

Be nice to see another site take off as TradeMe's inflated fees has artificially inflated cost of items & made somethings effectively non-saleable.

And the continual 2 minute buying time extension is crap, ebay is better......also killed T&E paper which was good fun getting up early for bargains

Those who believe that TradeMe fees are too high, should find another way to sell their stuff. Don't grizzle - walk.

awwww....I was going to trot out the standard KB line bugger....:killingme

I agree Mr HDC but as the saying goes " it might be crooked poker game but its the only game in town"

Yeah I used to get up early for the T and E ...first in with the cash wins.

Then you get the " your account is cranky" Fairfax's idea of being with it I suppose.

none of the alternatives have the reach, which is frustrating. Someone told me that the guy Neil something who sold out of Mainfreight (and bought, among other things an Aston Martin ONE 11) is funding that wheedle. But last time I looked it had bugger all listings.

She has replaced Nigella Lawson in my affections. Though I wouldnt turn down a three-way.... plus you know you'd get a decent feed after.

Rachel's cookbook (the Paris one) is very good. I've cooked a bit from it. Couple of lovely lentil recipes.

Dude, you and me think the same. Rachel is such a hot piece of arse with a killer rack.

Check out the last few posts of this thread for a few pics of her from fellow KB Khoo admirers ...

Yes, it is expensive.

It's not worth the grief and auction fees to sell some stuff, just take it to the dump instead these days.

She has replaced Nigella Lawson in my affections. Fine! Just leaves more of her for me!

Couple of lovely lentil recipes. Isn't that an oxymoron?

Did you know that there is a herb named nigella? True story. Anyway I once saw some nigella seeds and suggested exitedly to Mrs Oakie that I could grow my own Nigella. Got the growl over that one, I did!

In the days before TradeMe, the only way to sell $1-$2 crap was to have a garage sale. That meant putting an advert in the local paper - you were out of pocket by maybe $30 before you even started. At the end of the day, most of the cheap crap would remain unsold, despite the number of the great unwashed tyre-kicking their way around your home during the day.

That option is still available. Instead though, people want someone else to host their garage sale on-line - free of charge.

Expensive? Compared to what? Take your custom elsewhere.

Can we please keep to the main topic. No, not TradeMe... No-one would start a thread about that, now would they? Moaning about sales and auction sites is so predictable - elsewhere in the world, everyone moans about eBay, but they still use it.

But, Rachel Khoo... <sigh> What a great... topic.
Definitely not enough forum space devoted to her.

Sold something on tardme for $171. Fees were $13.51 plus .55 listing fee. So, 8.22% of the gross. Having said that, it was listed at $150 with start equals reserve.

Not unhappy in terms of result, but if I am listing anything from now on, I will be upping the start price by 10%. I can always drop it later if it doesn't sell.

Yep it's pretty shocking and they have had the market essentially to themselves for sometime, however whether you like the rest of the bookFace package or not bookFace Marketplace is very active, and free. Mainly mobile based at this stage.

Man just saw how old this is! To be fair their fees are even fuckin worse now. Once upon a time I used Trademe for everything but I no longer find any value in their services for the fees I have to pay.
