I'm buying a bike at the same time as building a garage.
So what are people's suggestion?
Where do I park the bike? and can I get something like a cover to throw over it on days I don't ride it? until my gargre is finished?

I've had a similar sort of problem --- new bike - barn full of daughter's stuff - just went to my local bike store and got a custom cover to protect the bike until the daughter [her goods, chattles, boxes, barrels, packing cases and miscellaneous bits and pieces] moves out [in two weeks time :hbd: ] ........ sorry - strayed a bit off topic there

however - the purpose of this post was to tell you that a] covers ARE available [yes, in NZ too - 'cause that's where the suggestion originally came from] and b] they aren't expensive and c] we've had some wild weather since i got mine and it's working just fine

that's it - sorry for the wombling on.............

excellent.
Reckon she'll be parked outside the ranch slider on the deck, so I can gawk at her all night while watchin telly ;)
(the bike .. not the missus :) )

What's a disc lock worth?

DOH! you have a ranch slider!
Just prak the bike in the living room so she can watch telly too!
The bonus here is that you can sit on her whilst you watch telly :motu:

On your covered back garden deck up against the house so it stays dry when it rains.
Garden shed.
Kids play hut.
A breathable bike cover with the bike standing on concrete to reduce moisture coming up from below.

If none of the above work. You could always park in inside on top of some black plastic sheeting with some ancient carpet on top to keep the side stand from ripping a hole.

Horse.

Yeah - and you can join in the chase scenes if you make the engine noises (starting the motor just drowns out the telly I find...)

I'm thinking maybe park as close to the big plasma as possible, then run a hose out the window for me to breathe thru.

Soon enough the wife will pass out .. so everybody is happy :)

My solution to the praking prolbem and insufficient gargre space was a 20' shipping container - weather tight, secure, cheaper than a gargre and no council permit required  as it is removable. Three bikes fit easily and allow each to be manoeuvred in and out and more if needed. Gets a bit codl in witner.

I used to ride the CB750 straight up the few stairs and through the frount door leaving the bike in the hallway. Was OK in the villa style home but I'd never get it up all the stairs of where I live now. However there is pleanty of room in the workshop. You could allways park your bike there, provided you leave the key in it :devil2:

I've got the old girl under a gazeebo standing on a sheet of ply, until the garage is built.... been waiting two years so far for the landlord to get around to it.

kitchen got vinyl or tiles?

explain to your missus that the bike weighs as much as two people, and has smaller foot prints than a human. also wipe the tire just before bringing it inside.

How much do shipping containers cost to buy and who transports them to the section?

DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU ARE MARRIED.

In a rash moment I once bethought myself to extract Li'l Ratty from his position locked in behind the cages, by riding him through the conveniently placed internal gargre access door, down the hallway, across the entrance foyer and down the front steps.

Worked fine, no probs EXCEPT that Mrs Ixion saw me do it. I'm still not sure how they got the planet back on its axis, but I believe the Guiness Book of Records people are carefully checking the figures on the Krakatoa explosion to see if it still qualifies.

Still not clear WHY, m'self. But it seems that doing this sort of stuff arouses some primal instinct for destruction in the female of the species. It must be related to the instinct that makes them go off their trolley if one uses the stove for some perfectly innocent and harmless purpose involving bike bits. Never understood that either.

Just don't do it.

Didn't know Whatawhata was part of Hamilton lol. Was gonna say there are enough of us around this town you could probably borrow some gargre space from someone. Not sure it'll work now.

We got the container from Royal Wolf (any relative?) early this year. It was sand blasted and repainted to a colour of our choice. A new side door was added for easier access and it was delivered.

Costs: Container $2280
Added door and paint $1402
Delivery $90
GST $471
Total $4243

It is 2.4m wide X 2.4m high X 20ft long and about 2 tonne. Took a bit to negotiate the bend in our driveway (back section) but no probs really. Hiab truck has quite a lot of possibilities to get on into a tight spot.

Hmm cf a cheap kitset garage at around $10K which is probably a lot smaller than the container (20' approx 6.5m).

Royal Wolf is my snobby cousin - he has nothing to do with us common wolves :devil2:

Parking a bike in da house can void your insurance if da house decides to burn down for some reason.
Don't bother asking me why,I was told this by an insurance thief,,,,,ummm Rep'
Probably something to do with petrol, electricity an Ducati's. :spudwhat:
