ADV touring jacket recommendations?

After many miles, a few crashes & a few repairs my old Teknic jacket is kinda falling apart, it's been good & I'd happily replace it with another the same, but they don't make them any more! :crybaby:

So I need a new jacket, biased more to touring & winter riding as I have a pressure suit for summer & trail riding. I've been scoping around for something for a while now but haven't spotted anything that really appeals. Happy to spend up to around $500, maybe $600 for something particularly groovy. So I'd like to hear what you'd recommend.

I have a few requirements:

* Not all black. Orange would be cool. Way less cars tried to kill me after I went from black to the current red one.
* No removable waterproof liner -those must be the dumbest idea ever. Integrated waterproof membrane please, Goretex might be a big ask for under $600. The ol Teknic has a removable waterproof outer with mesh underneath which has been pure awesome but I've never seen anything else similar.
* Sleeve cuffs that can go OVER big winter gauntlets
* Removable thermal liner would be nice
* Decent armour is good but I have a selection of stuff from old gear I can swap in if need be.
* Reasonable length, not too short
* Removable high collar is always a plus in winter

It's the sort of thing I'd like to try on so will look again at stuff available locally first, but given the lack of selection & how much we get reamed on motorcycle gear here buying from overseas is a definite possibility.

A couple that have appealed (on screen) so far are the RST Paragon 3 which is on moto one for $399 & probably around in NZ shops, & the Rukka Mika which is on FCmoto at around $550 but currently out of stock so who knows if they can actually supply.

After a number of jackets never really meeting the mark I switched to Klim gear. It would now take something pretty miraculous to make me switch as the gear is comfortable, durable and most importantly waterproof in the most torrential West Coast rain.

Ticks all your boxes except the cuffs I think.
Bought pants with it too and looking at the price I got a great deal compared to whats listed on their site.
Great service and when the pants developed a leak after six months (just bad luck, quality seems great) had a brand new pair within days, no drama.
The liner is superwarm, which is annoying as when you first put it back in at start of winter there's always a few fine days left where its too hot again! Well in HB anyway :)

I would have to agree! After countless jackets/pants combo's over my many years of riding..hey, I'm old ~ I bought me the Klim Badlands jacket/pants combo... Very, Very expensive..but, I agree with the above quote 100%%...

Good gear just cost...

Cheers guys. What Klim jacket do you have Josh? It looks like nice gear but most models are way north of the budget limit. If spending that much the Rukka gear looks a little more optimised for winter.

Because I ride with an armour pressure suit I use a shell jacket that's not pre-padded or fitted with armour. It was a tough job finding a quality waterproof shell jacket as most do come pre-padded, however Klim do a really nice shell jacket called the Traverse which is very rugged yet still lightweight and has ample ventilation for those hot days. Off the top of my head it was only around the $450 NZ mark. Value for money I'm impressed, I would have expected to pay more for a jacket like this.

Some chatter is less than pleasant regarding Kilm gears armour (you can find it on advrider), so this is probably a good way to go :niceone:

yup...I wear the same config of badland pro jacket and pants, I'm pretty happy with the klim gear but they are god damn spendy!. I did notice that the jacket was trim fitting, and I'm not a big nor fat guy so was surprised that the straps and velcro on the arms didn't have enough length so I had to cut the straps from my old jacket and sew them on. The badland will not fit over the gloves, I used to do this with my previous jacket and quite liked that feature so I get your desire for that.

Also completely agree on the removeable liner dumbness, you might as wear a rain coat underneath...and you just know that the time you don't have it on, will be the time it poors down.

You do a lot of miles Clint so I'm sure you can work on a plan to justify the spend :blip:

Quite a lot of chatter in the gear threads on ADVrider re Klim dropping the ball quality wise, especially in the Latitude gear. Part of the reason I didn't go there when I replaced my riding pants.

Not exactly what is being asked for but a vote for the Belstaff Adventure.
This jacket has taken it all since 2009, faded but not one stitch gone, around US$270 at the time (iirc)
I got it when I was based in Darwin so heat was more of a concern but does have a liner for water and can wear it over a light Klim jacket when needed.
I ended up with Klim pants, the previous DryRiders started to fail on the first day of use.
