I simply want the guy convicted like anyone else no matter how many times or not he been caught DIC,if its his 1st then convict the guy...he could be 1st in line to the English throne what the fuck difference does it make. The sad storys we all hear re drink driving and the bullshit spouted from those that make the laws and then you get this shit not to mention what the copper that wasted his time processing him thinks.Strange shit indeed, the only time any pay for driving pissed is when they connect with some unfortunate soul then theres a hell of a fuss.

1) What does being a Maori king/prince even mean? Jack all I suspect.
2) Has he been treated with leniency because he is...er browner than some of us less brown/more European descended folk.
3) He did some wrong shit. He should have to answer for it.

Nah.. any other Maori would be off to Her Majesty's for a month or so and convicted - unless they were potentially an upcoming AB.

I'll assume the judge was thinking that if the kid has something to work towards, like becoming maori king, then he might knuckle down and start acting like a law abiding citizen of this country. With a conviction he doesnt have the goal to work towards. I would hope there was an arrangement with the Maori king to punish and reform the kid using traditional methods. (whack em...)
What looks like is more likely to happen is that he see's he gets away with acting acting however he wants and will continue doing so either because he knows he can get away with it or because he doesnt want to become the next maori king. (I dont think he deserves to hold thins honor now anyway)

Isn't a king supposed to represent the people over whom he reigns ?
Easy enough to find a few jesters....
First of all, not all of us regard the Tainui leader as our "king" so he does not reign over all us Māori.
Secondly, it is not a hereditary position - rather the king is selected by Tainui elders
Thirdly, his grandmother (Te Arikinui Dame Te Atarangi Kahu) would have made sure someone kicked his arse ...
And fourthly, the others who committed the burglary and thefts were also not convicted - they were discharged without conviction before this kid got to court - his lawyer argued, justifiably, that he could not be treated any different than the others.
And finally - Not good at all ... I do not support this ... sure he should be treated equally with his co-offenders .. they should have been convicted and sentenced .. this is just a bullshit response from the courts .. He can't even claim a disadvantaged background .. the family's rich !!!
And fucking "royalty" is a colonizers concept ... many of us refuse to buy into that bullshit anyway ..
(Oh and finally .. all you Pākehā can butt out - how he is treated by the courts is open for comment - whether he deserves to be "king" is Tainui's business.)

Yes to the first but remember that he has no right to succession. The title Maori "King" is titular and solely applies to Tainui and the "King" is selected by a council of Tainui, not a birthright. (Oops, banditbandit said that first, sorry)

I don't give a toss who he is or what colour his skin happens to be. Plead guilty to burglary, doesn't even get community service (that is what I would see as a second chance, which it is good to see people getting when they make the most of them).
His Grandmas stern words and withholding of cookies does jack all for the person/s home/s he invaded and stole from.

And if he does ... the penalties for him will be harsher as he didn't learn from his earlier brush with the justice system.
As will the penalties of any that continue to offend with the same or similar offenses ...
The intention of the judge may work with some ... but not all. The judge took a gamble (in my opinion) too.
In the interest of the safety of road users in that area ... I hope he got it right.
Who has more to lose if the result of the judge's intention ... would be wrong. The Judge .. The offender .. or the users of those local roads .. ???
ANY that drive on the Public roads of New Zealand risk meeting with a driver under the Influence ... Most of you all reading this post WILL at some stage. The Gamble ... is WHEN that will happen. The dangerous part of the gamble is by how much influence that driver will be over the legal limit.
Under the legal limit is not always safe (with some) either ... would you bet your life it was .. ??
