If there was any confusion about whether or not we'd reached full blown East Germany stasi style society, well this blows those Rose coloured glasses right off!!!
Actually it could be a good idea to start confronting NZ's drinking problem but its still ambulance at the bottom of the cliff. I expect they will realise this and the next step will be a hitler youth brigade to infiltrate teenage parties where the alcohol cycle begins...
So if you want to regale tales in public over a beer about that third gear powerslide at 180 out of your favourite sweeper best to stop for beersies at the local brothel instead of the Pub from now :)

But all silliness aside cops are real people and they are already mingling at these types of places and bike clubs etc but turn a blind eye. I can see the benefits of this but hopefully done properly...

Bring back the good ole days when freshly graduated 18 year old constables would kick out the patrons with the early closing times and arrest any under 21s.... afterwards coming back to the pub to get on it themselves. :Police:

We all feel dirty about stoolies but if it stopped the possibility of my grandkids being killed by a drunk driver I guess I would feel good about it! :shifty:

Editorial quote: It was also an absolute waste of police resourcing, Robertson said. "Surely they are much better off finding criminals than spying on our patrons."

Well if they are drunk and they drive ... they are bloody criminals FFS! :brick:

No excuse for drink drivers....

but would you find them inside the pub or on the parking lot.....?

Apart from the fact that you can pick a mufty cop from half a mile away....

No mention of driving in that article, and the cop in the pub isn't going to know what's happening outside.

Sounds like its more about nailing the pub owner for letting any patrons get drunk.

The undercover officer would monitor patrons' level of intoxication and how that was being managed by the licensee and managers.

If staff members observed an incident of intoxication and believed it could amount to an offence or escalate they would call an intervention team.

You're right, I guess it was just my brain on auto pilot thinking of possible consequences --- the current laws and surveillance inside work OK sounds like BS then! :bs:

Saw a very obviously very intoxicated individual stumblling in the local pubs carpark the other day......
Unsteadily swiping car roofs with one arm and falling over.....
So I asked him what the f ..he was doing.
looking for my car he slurred..
You cant find your bloody car swiping over the roofs like that ....
Yes I can.....tsgot blue and red lights on the roof........

It would be my guess that the :Police: are ensuring that the licensee complies with the sale and supply of alcohol amendment act.

This act clearly puts the responsibility on the licensee in the licenced premises ass opposed to the patron.

An example of the popo doin this could be watching a patron clearly becomming intoxicated in a licenced premises which is a breach of the act.
e.g allow persons to become intoxicated on premises (paraphase of the wording, to lazy to google and paste).

This could potentially result in a large fine or closure for a set time, or other things for the place in question.

I can't be fucked writing the whole reason it could work, but suffice to say I guess ((I don't live in dunners) they are probably happy about that!:innocent:) by pissed peeps not being allowed in or to drink it will reduce victims/offenders later in the night.

Quite often it is a fine line between the two and they can often transition between the two (depending on the size of the other guy :bash:)

Which is utter bollox, of course.

FFS, any time you make anyone responsible for someone else's behaviour you're headed for fail all round.

I sort of agree, but it also doesn't give a patron the right to get as pissed as they feel like.

So, why is it the establishment's fault? It's not their behaviour causing problems.

Was a time when the local black Mariah collected the few worst affected and took them home. WTF happened?

They discovered that all the homes were broken when they got there and there was no more room back at the cells so they stopped picking them up!
