After a long bit of conversation at the Pissed Penguin with other KBers we came to the the conclusion that a lot of KBers are tossers when they waffle on about "yeah, fuck cages" and "never would have one" and "all cagers are arseholes" etc.
Most of us need a cage now and then, if you can live without a cage well more power to you but I (We at KB) suspect you are all dreaming if you think you can exist without one.

Tis I - Big Dave - King of the toss People.

OK - The Mrs has a nice car, but I don't drive it - I don't have a NZ car licence, just a class 6, so i wouldn't want to break the law or nuffink by using it and she is away so often i go for days/weeks without seeing it.

I run my 'bustling' design business and do everything social on the 2 motorcycles.

Hate cars.

OK.. I admit it .. i have a cage.. even worse .. its a Mitsi 4WD RVR Sport( how Ponsonby of me.).. but on the positive side .. i only use it to take the spud around to where he needs to go , or up to Pack n save,.. MAYBE to Piha.. (hard to get a surfboard on the FJ.. fux the aerodynamics.. just really messes with my head trying to cut a racing line along Scenic drive in the cage..got knee down once and fell outta the car..)

Regarding all as "the enemy" because of the actions of a few, is pure bigotry.

The "I hate all cagers" message that is all too frequently expressed on this site gets up my nose too. Such bigotry and intolerance is loudly condemned by those same people, if it is seen to be applied against bikers.

By necessity and not choice, I spend close to 90% of my road time in a cage. It is disappointing that I should have to spend so much time as an object of hate. :dodge:

I'm starting to think that the only way to find a well-balanced biker is to find one with a chip on both shoulders........

I would be hard done by with no Car now ..but never had one from 82 though 1990... of course when i needed to get a Ford Galaxy 9in housing to the Railway workshops for narrowing i cut one tube off and tied the lot to my CBX/6 's seat, the next day the diff head in a sack went the same way..my engine stand, same thing tied to the seat in bits and welded together at home..you just need to think outside the square sometimes.
As far as the whole Bike /anti "cage" ... i kind of figured a car etc is like being in a little personal bubble..you go from your home bubble, get in the car bubble and say drive to your work bubble all a little oblivious to the surroundings..bikes being a little more real world as far as surroundings...black and white verses colour.

With 4 kids there's no way we could survive without a car. We finally got our 2nd car just recently since the kids are getting older and school/sports/friends means the Mrs and I end up driving around a bit in the weekends.

Neither car is particularly exciting (Mazda MPV & Audi A4) but we couldn't survive as a family without them.

a biker in a cage is still alert to bikes and, as such, remains worthy of respect.

a non-biker in a cage is a potential hazard to bikes..
especially [but not limited to] the drivers i see shaving, applying make-up, chatting to their passengers whilst maintaining eye-contact with them, combing their hair, eating, drinking, squeezing their pustules, chatting on the phone, turning around to scream at the kids in the back seat and thumping the [unrestrained] family dog ALL whilst propelling their vehicles forward along busy roads at on or near the speed limit, totally oblivious to what is going on with the rest of the traffic around them..................

it is true, i do not respect such cage drivers......... in fact i actively despise them and have no hesitation in expressing that sentiment either here or anywhere else [and yes, sucinctly and with emphasis, to their idiot faces when they've done something stupid that has involved me]

NOW have a go at me :wait: *adjusts shoulder-chips*

We have two cars (Nissan Sentra for commuting/weekends round town) and a Commodore (for weekend trips). Much as I love bikes I wouldn't (so long as finances permit) be without at least one car now.

When riding I'm weary of everything! Cyclists, Cars, Trucks, other motorcyclists.. Every obstacle... especially when I'm on my bike. I've had too many incidences and close calls not to be weary of anything on and off the road. I've also been bowled over twice while sitting at a intersection waiting for other traffic when a taxi took a shortcut over me.. and a family nurse "just didn't see me".. I've purposely picked bright colours (well reddish jacket) and a Yellow helmet so that I'm more visible... Its just not the 'cages' its everyone that you have to be weary of... plain and simple.

Tosspot

The term tosspot, one of abuse, has come to be a synonym for 'tosser', someone who 'tosses' or masturbates. However, it originally referred to commodes as used in medieval London. This is evidenced by the final song in Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare.

When that I was and a little tiny boy,
With hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
A foolish thing was but a toy,
For the rain it raineth every day.

But when I came to man's estate,
With hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
'Gainst knaves and thieves men shut their gates,
For the rain it raineth every day.

But when I came, alas! to wive,
With hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
By swaggering could I never thrive,
For the rain it raineth every day.

But when I came unto my beds,
With hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
With toss-pots still had drunken heads,
For the rain it raineth every day.

A great while ago the world begun,
With hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
But that's all one, our play is done,
And we'll strive to please you every day.

(hard to get a surfboard on the FJ..

You can do it! Used to all the time on the island (admittedly it wasnt an FJ, it was an XT or XR), just make sure that it is bungy-corded nice and securely down one side, with the nose curving INWARDS (very important point this one, otherwise the wind gets inside it, the bungies start to stretch, and next thing you know, you've got a 7'3" wide motorcycle, of which 6'3" just jumped out in front of that oncoming car/tree . . .). On the brightside, if you do come off, then you have an extra layer of protection for your bike!

Of course, back in those days, the board was worth more than the bike . . .

Well, I drive cars (2001 Peugeot 306XT, 1990 Peugeot 205GTi, 1997 Fiat Punto) quite unashamedly. Because I can.

And sometimes (Shock! Horror!) I prefer driving the car to riding the bike. And sometimes, I have a lot of fun driving cars on good biking roads. I can drive a car at getting close to 10/10ths, but a bike at only maybe 4.5/10ths of its capability. I think it's because when I'm driving I can wear summat that allows room for my mighty manhood and ginormous nads, whereas I have to wear these tight leather trousers on the bike.

And didn't Ben Kingsley sing it beautifully at the end of the fairly recent movie?

I want a copy of that, I do.

I dont have a car anymore, fell apart, much like my bikes, spend too much on bikes too buy a cheap shitbox civic to run around in, one day though, but the missus has a car so i take that when or if i need too, handy when you're swapping tyres and you take both rims off chuck em in the car and go to ya local to change em over, soo much easier (and cheaper for some). cars got a lot of plus's.

On the car side of things.

Flatmates got a 76 caddy Hearse 460 V8 sitting out front pity it weighs over 3 ton but nothing a 671 blower wont fix and a 200hp shot of NOS, and the JZA80 twin turbo 6 spd Supra in the garage is a bit of all right, something about 140kph going well sideways that is fun (on a track of course). cars are aight by me, just really dig my bike.

I know alot of things that I do in the Hilux I would never do without it. I think its a case of individuals inflating their own egos, nothing more, nothing less. Without cages/trucks/trains etc the country would be screwed. People rely on them generally much more than they will actually realise...
