Upskill and accelerate your way through the licencing system with Riderskills

On 1st March 2014 NZTA introduced the competency based training and assessment program (CBTA).

The principle behind the program is to encourage riders to upskill to a higher riding standard
by offering a faster route through the graduated licencing system in reward for passing more
robust tests at the restricted and full licence stages. The core competencies are based on
motorcycle roadcraft.

The new testing regime is considerably more focused on motorcycling skills than the
traditional licence testing system. Trialling of the CBTA system undertaken in the latter part
of 2013, and initial results since the system has gone live have highlighted a very low success
rate in riders who have not undertaken on-road training with a professional motorcycle
instructor.

CBTA Training course - $130 after KB discount

The Riderskills CBTA training course is run strictly one on one - just you and the instructor
to enable you to gain maximum benefit from the expert coaching session. The course is tailored
specifically to your skill level. We will explain the objectives of the CBTA test, take you
out for an assessment ride and give you realistic feedback on your proficiency. We will devise
an action plan and where appropriate, conduct demonstration rides and specific skills
training. Two-way radio is used throughout the course.

Riderskills may be able to provide a rental bike by prior arrangement if you do not own a
suitable motorcycle.

You can do this course as soon as you have a class 6L (or above) motorcycle licence. You will
be trained on an actual CBTA testing route so that you can experience all of the challenges
required for the test, however this will be a different route from your actual licence
assessment.

This course is available seven days a week. Mention kiwibiker on the booking form to get your
$20 discount.
