At least the BMW braked, had some dizzy cow do that too me in a Hilux on the Kwaka, was buzzing doing her makeup according to witnesses.
Last thing I heard was the ticker of a diesel engine unusually close to my head just before impact!

Yeah, I usually leave some space behind the car in front and the bike in gear, no good trying to paddle backward and find a gear when you hear that squeal.

That, and do not leave yourself in a position that you can not fuck off from. If I have to stop behind cars, I am always at the side a little, and I am watching my mirrors like a hawk.

This is why every time I brake I have one eye on the the mirror. Has saved me from exactly this more than once.

Reflecting on a recent experience, none of the normal precautions will help if the guy behind suddenly accelerates.

6/10 for verbal response. (Judges would like to hear a bit more flair next time)
8/10 for airborne technique.
10/10 for roof positioning.
Honorable mention to driver for moving vehicle and thus rocking a roof ornament for a few seconds.
Hope nothings broken
