Anyone else watch the docudrama last night on one??? Their really getting good with these period accurate shows...
Have to say full respect to those involved in the real recovery and tragedy, had always known about this but the show really portrayed what those men went through.
The alledged coverup by airline was news to me, had never heard that side of story before...

"Alleged" you say? Air New Zealand was completely busted for its attempts at cover up. Royal Commission of Enquiry head Justice Peter Mahon articulated what many New Zealanders believed to be an "orchestrated litany of lies". Regrettably his diagnosis was deemed to be outside of his terms of reference by the then Prime Minister, who was a good mate of Air New Zealand's then chief executive.

Yeah quite enjoyed it. I was supposed to be on that flight, along with my mum and dad, (descendent of Sir Robert Falcon Scott) but my dad got sick so we pulled out. Fate ! we had already been on the first flight so thought we should just stay home

Only use that word to cover my arse, anything in writing on the net is a statement that can end up biting your butt, especially if the other side has more expensive lawyers.
Loved how that cop had the balls to step forward about the missing pages, pure integrity there. Pity the legal system managed to obscure such damning evidence...

I remarked to someone else in the room "now if that had happened in modern times..." with regard to them just completing an exercise on mass casualty recovery, just like the drills of 911 and 7/7...

Back to topic that's the first time the whiteout thing has been properly explained in terms of how quick the visibility in antartic conditions changes.
Wonder if a similar loss of depth perception occurs on wet roads/slight sunstrike conditions etc...

Quite possible, it definitely does after too many bourbons
