Is it just me or have others noticed the traffic around Auckland been getting lighter of late?
Maybe the petrol prices are starting to have a positive effect. If so, bring on the price rises.

It's also getting slower. Motorway traffic going at 80 - 90kph to conserve fuel.

Yeah, have noticed the same effect down here in Christchurch, on the down side it will probably cause more cellphone and lack of seatbelt usage because the lower speed 'feels' safer.

Yeah i have noticed this in Chch, good i guess, makes my job a lot easier, i do laugh when i see V8 Holdens and other heaps of shit like that doing 80 on the open road to save gas....loosers:motu:

Could also be due to our good weather of late? Don't want to put a dampner on your theory, but it is also Uni holidays at present so there isn't 20,000 students driving into the cities to get parking...
Give it a couple of weeks to get back to 'normal'
Ditto about $80 to fill the car! Not happy about it :(

haha i don't think it's to save gas, more likely that, that is as fast as they go *runs from holden drivers* :dodge:

In case any of you had any doubts about the fuel company's thoughts on the price increases, heres the proof . . .

Majority of people in Chch have slow down. Started off first with the big Holden/Fords. Lots of people are now leaving their big car's at home and using them only for special trips or work outings. Have you seen how expensive small capacity car's are now! Rip off prices.
Was behind a HSV Holden last night and my already slow take off speed was too fast for it! :dodge:
Typically I get tailgated each time I'm in front at traffic lights, but now-a-days car drivers are keeping their distance and happily merge if it doesn't mean they have to accelerate in front of you.
It's the people in their small cars that haven't slowed down. They're still speeding and are starting to bully bigger cars into going faster, when it used to be the opposite.

Traffic??? Christchurch????
So, how did you notice that? Only 3 cars on the road today instead of the usual 4??
.....mumbles about taking 45 minutes in the cage to drive 15 kms to work this morning in mainly bumper to bumper traffic..... :brick:

They may be going slow, but the fuel economy in the 5.7 litre V8 holdens is not bad. They have an alloy block and heads, and are fuel injected. They weigh no more than the V6 model.
The vehicles that will be feeling it the most are the petrol powered SUVs. They are heavier, less aerodynamic and have great big heavy inefficient donks in them.

$110.00 to fill up the Jeep at the weekend. Only goes 400km on that.
Anyone want to buy it?

Filled up my car in March, still has 3/4 of a tank!
It’s killing the workshop tho, all of the parts outlets are dead as well.
Taking me 20 mins to get to work (bout 30ks) and I'm hardly splitting at all!

It seems here to be getting heavier because we're getting spells of cold weather ...
especially in the rush hour jam up here.. (stupid lights timing that makes traffic back up for blocks between 8 am and 9)

If you get through a set of lights in under 3 phase changes you are doing well...
8-9am? Try 7am-6pm, Come up for a week and try it. I'll loan you my car.

Brent crude prices now down to $US61 per barrel. Our oil companies used $US70 as their excuse to raise prices.
If $US1 per barrel equals a 1 cent rise at our pumps, we should now be paying $1.46 for 91.
Where are the reductions?

I remember being on Queen St one night in the cage.
First car went through with the green.
Second car went through with green and orange.
Third car went through with orange and red.
Sometimes a fourth car would go for it.
Then the other direction has green for ages yet there was no traffic on it.

Scary - the old Series One Landi cost $60 to fill dual tanks when I had it three years ago. You could go anywhere, just not very fast.
Last night filled up the Goose with 96... I had walked in and gave the guy $20 and held my hand out for change, he did the same. He then said $23, I asked him to check he had the right pump, he had. I was stunned. I finally realised how much of an increase this has been.
So I am gonna drink one less beer this week to compensate, or is that one more to compensate so I don't ride as much? :wait:

Inconsiderate V8 cruise Tauranga to Welly: 12.4 litres/100km
Economically conscious return : 10.4 litres/100km
At $1.60/litre that's only saving $3.20/100km or about $15 on a one-way trip - a small price to pay for a lot more fun!
