View Full Version : Anyone around here in Dunedin?

ikov
20th July 2014, 00:13
Couldn't find much recent activity in/from Dunedin with the search function so gave up trying and started a thread.

Will be moving to Dunners sometime next month (Aug 2014) and was wondering who on here is a southern biker and open to showing the new guy around when possible?

Cheers!

I guess if you are all that worried about the chrome and your leather tassles you would only ride a few weeks a year. There are probably half a dozen days each year where I cannot ride due to the ice between where I live and the main road. You can dress for all the rest.

My daughter goes to uni in Dunedin....
had her car vandalised last week.....again
Also heard on the news how couple of girls got beaten badly in Dunedin....

But most of all I dont get how calling a place cold got such reactions......
I also lived in Te Anau....which was not as cold
neither was Christchurch...
Alaska ...where I also lived....on the other hand was a lot colder.

The difference was that if you say that Alaska is cold, nobody will throw their toys out of the pram.....
unless JimO moves over there that is..........

It gets cold, fuck, we have penguins living in town and I can't take the bike today because it is about to shit itself with snow, but it is hardly cold and miserable. I think it was the last word that struck a nerve given that you live in New Zealand which is hardly a South Pacific paradise.

some very hot and some very cold.

I chose to live here,
lived in bay of islands and Te Anau,
and a fair few places in between.
Some suit me better then others
for all sort of reasons

But this thread told me a lot more about some people
Then it did about Dunedin

Dunedin is a cold hole. I would rather live in Central eg Alex. Dunedin is full of miserable Scotts decendents. OK its got a IMHO a 2nd rate hospital (not a good place to be ill), a Uni and a chocolate factory, but that does not make up for the rest of the area.

I don't have any problems with it being cold but Dunedin is a wet miserable grey kind of cold that lasts for 10 months of the year. Most of the other time it is just wet and miserable (the people and the weather). Thats why the Scotts went there, it reminded them of home.

Housing is cheap there but wages are low, if you can find a job. Which in my book evens it out.

FYI I have just sold up and moved out of Otago, we moved north to get away from the wet and cold. A typical winters day here is 16 deg. Given Otago did not have a day over 20 since Christmass 2013 and we get the occassional 20 even in winter. To date the winter weather here is largely the same as the Otago summer weather.

By the way the rheutism has dissapeared.

Berries
21st July 2014, 23:50
By the way the rheutism has dissapeared.
Is that a spelling disorder? I don't think it has gone just yet.

Each to their own I guess. I have lived and worked in a few countries and then ended up in New Zealand. I have lived and worked in both islands and to be honest would not move from Dunedin to anywhere else in NZ. Overseas yes, but family has put the mockers on that for at least a few years.

It is dark and raining as I type, no doubt it will freeze shortly but then it is the middle of winter. I like having seasons which are one thing I did miss living in some more equatorial places. Got a well paid job and a massive view from home, central heating keeping it at 21 degrees inside. Twelve minute ride to work whatever time I leave, lots of quiet roads if I want to take the long way home.

The hospital is great in my experience. University means short skirts in summer and Whittakers is better than Cadburys anyway so who cares. Winter lasts for a good couple of months, you exaggerate the rest but I guess you need to try and justify your move north.

I do agree with you on one point though, the number of jocks and gingas. Fuck, I thought it was bad in Scotland.

...we don't have the rain and snow here but that wind is demonic...three attempts to stay in it more than 15 minutes outside and I have now opted to be a pussy, stay inside and light the fire...or be a twat and put three more layers on and attempt some productivity...

To get it back on thread, dunedin can have it's bloody wind back.

Hi all! I have also just moved to Dunedin and am looking for people to ride with!
I am looking at a KDX200 this weekend, my last bike was an exc200 but I had to sell to make the move. Now I have the funds, I want back in!

I am keen to ride anything, just want to get out again.
My background was enduro and trail style rides.
If there is anyone that doesn't mind me tagging along or wants to meet up (Dont worry I wont hold you up on the track ;) ) that would be awesome!
Would love to meet some new people and hit the trails.
