Impact Wrench

Well you know when you have a rattlegun yer right proper. Mine has never been defeated and is just the thing for clutch an crank nuts as well as old damper rod forks that like to spin but succumb to the ratlley.

But. . . I kinda dont use except when I need to. Have to recharge the compressor to full and stretch out the airline or fit the longer one.

So given a pressiecard for being awesome and reading a mag featuring one, I thought. . Hmm. Tool-time!

Now hold on Dave. That looks like that elcheapo brand bunnings peddle. And at 215Nm it is at the toy end of the scale. So well you may sneer, but hear me out.

So I have lithium batteries for Makita, AEG, and 3 other lesser brands including Ozito.

I'd bought their sabresaw for gardening duties upon a recommendation as hed loant his out and it still hadn't broken with years of abuse. As mine has reliably functioned hacking branches off with a long garden saw. If you have trees on your property that's another recommendation.

Right back to the garage. I perfonicated for a small age in the shop. I hate buying twice when I've bought something too weedy.
The next mid AEG or Makita would spin me $4-$500 but hugely increase torque.

Vs $139. I had $200 on the card.

Additionally not having something overpowered means I can spin things up before torquing without so much risk. Well that's what I'm telling myself.

I'm buying this for convenience and if I need more grunt I turn the compressor on. Time will tell if it is of use but spinning a caliper bolt off it performed well and could speed things up a bunch.
Ooh, follow up.

This thing rocks! Has had enough grunt that I've not needed to fire up wind one since.

On a sad not my drive broke on my near 30 year old Dremel last night.

The switch on mine that turns it on and controls the speed is wonky. turn it and it doesnt go. then it goes flat out

I had the wheels on the car balanced recently, and there was not an air rattle gun to be seen. They were using quite small, red cordless ones - Milwaukee?

I have an old DeWalt, which is mainly used on the car, but is great for loosening front sprocket nuts.

Nah actual Dremel brand. I took it out and cleaned all the contacts etc but it doesnt seem to be that. I have a $200 M10 voucher and might use that to replace it. Though I do want to accumulate some woodworking tools as well. Been having lots of DIY fun with that lately.

We had one, like all electric impact guns we have tried within 12 months the batteries are loose on the clamp and they work intermittently, air impact is far more reliable and lasts longer, if they find a fix for the battery clamping issue I'd use one all the time

I meant in saferides tyre bay.

I gave away my Black well over 30yr old dremel, think it's still going.

I bought a grey one with dumb display and push buttons. Upgrading to twist dial one when I got a voucher a couple of years ago. Means I can have different bits in them plus the grunty Makita has a large shanke flame bit and the air one can take a plethora of bits, and the pencil air one takes fine bits, and the converted dentist drill has special bits for transfers.

. . . I might have a problem.

Bridgestone Company owned stores, procedure is for the wheels to be torqued to spec then rechecked by a second person

When I was working for a Chrysler dealer back in the late 70s there was an ongoing problem with Hillman Avenger Alpine wheel balance (even beyond the shitty Aquajet tyres of the day) Todds determined that it was the Rostyle pressed steel wheels flexing and the fix was that wheels had to be tightened to a specific torque rather than rattle gunned.

A mate uses a shovel to good effect. I built a square wooden frame and then a contraption I dubbed The Biddliser after my mate Keith I stole the idea from. Works using towball or a stout shelf as a pivot point. I'll take a picture when I'm next downstairs.

Home made bead breaker, ugly as sin, works well. A bit bulky to take out on rides

Now I don't need a picture :niceone:

Imagine you've unbolted the leverarm from the mount and retained the drop blade.

Weld 2" of angle iron to pivot. (End of bar).
Slide under a towbar and press down on tyre. Which is on wood to stop damage. Saw Keith changing Avalon's 125 tyres back in the day and built one when I got home.

Yes a towbar does have some suspension movement, but I always have a van nearby and it is heavy enough.

similar concept dave but using the slots in the van front wheels gives a real secure pivot point and its a piece of cake to break the bead on a 180 slick ( although once simon crafar was struggling with a stubborn owo1 tyre so we filled the front of the van with girls and told them to start bouncing ...)

I just bought a guard roller for the daughters car as she insisted on having 9.5x19s with far to much offset under her Mazda Hatch.
I have only just put it together and I haven't used it, but for under $70 landed, I am super impressed.
They all look the same. I expected to be thin arse and no bearings.
I had done most of the work already with a old poker with a ball end and a hammer handle as you do...when the softball bat wont fit.

Well you are a lot younger looking than expected, maybe it's those snazzy work shop slippers? I need to get me some of those.

I use them when I go out on my yacht at Cape Cod.
The folded up cuffs and the gardening gloves are a bit ott.

Got myself a pair of 18in crimping pliers.
They are basically a pair of bolt cutters with holes drilled in the end.

smaller crimping pliers are for pussies
For $50 I am quite impressed.
354650354651
okay they are for fencing but pretty sure they will work on battery terminals if I am careful.
turns out they are also sold to use for swaging and other crimping 3/16 3/32 1/8 1 /16 so you really could use them on batteries and a version is even sold mounted on a stand. For wire rope etc.

354662

I have $400 plus Hayes ezepull ones that have never been that great especially on the open sided crimps.
These work far better, a little heavy and unwieldy but for the 150 times I will use them I am not complaining.
